Enlarge Person

Here is an example for clarity. Suppose Mialee casts enlarge person on Regdar, who is in a 10 x 10 room surrounded by goblins. Initiative is thus:

Mialee 16
Regdar 14
Goblins 10

Mialee's spell goes off on her initiative and she uses her action to take total defense. Regdar is next, he must either delay, or move to the nearest legal space as his first action. If he delays, the goblins must do likewise. If the goblins delay, then the situation has to be resolved by the end of the round. Whichever side has the higher initiative modifier can force the other to act first in that event.

I wouldn't allow Regdar to delay in this instance. It is his turn and he must resolve his illegal position now, even if he chooses to give up his other actions. Unless he can beat all three goblins into a helpless state in one round, he'll probably have to grapple them or be squeezed out into the doorway.

I say as Regdar Enlarges into the goblin's squares they recieve AoOs on redgars enlarged AC. If he survives, he is in illegal space and is placed in the nearest legal space.

Accidentally Ending Movement in an Illegal Space: Sometimes a character ends its movement while moving through a space where it’s not allowed to stop. When that happens, put your miniature in the last legal position you occupied, or the closest legal position, if there’s a legal position that’s closer.
