Enlarged Antimagic Field?

Is this a viable combination for a big ol' dragon? Seems like it could get pretty nasty, ruins those high level adventurers plans quite nicely.

Without doubt a great spell to use. A high level party going against a 9th-level spell using dragon might have to face a 40' radius (Enlarged 3 times) Antimagic Field.

Hm... the range on AMF doesn't seem right to me. Shouldn't it be personal? You can't cast it on someone else, you have to cast it on yourself....

I think the appropriate feat is Widen Spell, which increases the spell's area (from Magic of Faerun).

Unfortunately for dragons everywhere, Widen spell is +3 spell level and it only increases the area by 50%. That means only a 15 ft anti-magic field, still not big enough for the Great Wyrm.

However, since we are using info from splatbooks, consider Antimagic Aura (from Magic of Faerun) -- Sor/Wiz 7. It's like an Anti-magic Field except that it has a range of touch and it covers the whole target (Will negates). Clearly this spell was meant to be used offensively, but in the Great Wyrm's hands it would be deadly if used defensively.

Well, then, the ultimate anti-magic solution is for the dragon to spend many years (its got plenty of them) in making it's lair totally a permanent anti-magic area. It really sound fairly reasonable to allow this - keeping in mind that it would be unique to really powerful dragons and probably involve a number of things impossible for PCs - so if the PCs want an anit-magic HQ they's have to take it from the dragon.

We are getting a bit outside of what's allowed by the rules - except, of course, for the rule that says the DM sets up the world to work the way they want.

It seems to me that the dragon would be at a disadvantage in an Anti-Magic field. No Breath weapon, spell like abilities, or spells. The only thing the Dragon has left is it's AC (not too bad), and natural attacks.

A Fighter heavy party would make short work of a dragon in this situation.

The dragon can fly. So the only think he has to worry about in an AMF are arrows (because he loses DR). But this gives him enough time to snatch and kill the casters. Then he dismiss the AMF and kills the fighters.
