Cool! Looking forward to another fun-filled contest. :)

First, just want to point out that I will not be a judge this year. That's one more of YOU that can be a judge.

Second, if you have any questions about what judging was like, feel free to ask away and I'll try to give you what info I can.

I originally posted this in the Announcement thread, but if someone could delete it out of there, I'd be grateful:

2) If you work for, are part of, or own a D20 company, you are not eligible to be a judge.

Quick question on this point: could you clarify the extent of 'work for'? Is it just salaried employees, or a wider definition?

F'instance:

- you write a review and get a free copy of the product for doing so. Can you apply?
- you submitted successfully to an open call (eg CC3, Bastion's new one, etc). Can you apply?
- you've had a module in the 3E Dungeon. Can you apply? What if you did work for Asgard? Or the EWPJ?

Thanks

Of your examples:

1) Reviewers are allowed (even encouraged) to apply. Psion was a judge last year.

2) Open Calls/Mag Articles - OK, as long as it wasn't in the last ENnie year (i.e. so that the publication which printed your work is not itself eligible for an ENnie); this assumes you have no other connection with the publisher in question.

3) General freelancers - no. They have too much involvemnt with the companies they have worked for. One may have paid them late, another may have treated them well, and so on.

I am curious about it, so what is all involved in being a Judge. I know the basics: you have to be very fair and straight up honest about everything, you have to read lots of books, and you have to love gaming.

About the books...if a person is selected to be a Judge, does the Judge need to go out and purchase them, or are the books sent to them??? Or, should I not be asking this question because this is inside information or information only on a need to know basis????? If its the later then don't answer this question and all of us curious people will totally understand.

Oh yeah, thanks for asking us if we are interested. I think that's cool.

I wasn't a judge, but I know how a lot of companies worked it last year...

A lot of books means EACH and EVERY book released by a company in the last 12 months. I know a lot of companies who used this shotgun approach to the ENnies, myself included. In fact, I'd be surprised if most companies didn't submit the majority of their works in the past year.

What if you play test for some of the companies? They send you prerelease and you give your comments back? You don't get paid or get free product, save for the playtesting pieces?

My understanding was that last year, publishers sent six copies of product they wanted considered to Eric, who then sent a copy out to each of the judges. I'm sure they'll jump in with suggestions if a different process would be more efficient.

shouit: last year, playtesters were ineligible. That's how I read Morrus' rules this year, too.

- Eridanis
(Thought he was ineligible because of playtesting, but was wrong; but still wants to wish good luck to everyone else!)
