Entangled type spells

First Post
Hey again..been awhile on the boards.

I am looking for a clear and concise place to find the meaning of being entangled whether it is by the said spell or web...etc.

I had a big disagreement with the way the 3.5 rules say about being entangled.

I seem to think that if you are entangled you can make half moves but still have a -2 to attack and -4 to effective dex. It doesnt mean you are immobile or flat-footed so you cannot be sneak attacked. Of course, in the same paragraph it sates "being entangle impedes movement (ie you move at half) unless the bonds are anchored to an immovable object or tethered by an opposed force (hmmmm....)" so if you are in a web you are unable to move (if you didnt make your save) is this right? If so then you are immoble and cannot move so you can be sneak attacked...or am I wrong?

Is the (actual)entangle spell considered anchored since it grows from the ground and vines in the area? I would like a place that goes in depth on these questions if there is one out there. Thanks.

The effect varies depending on the source of the entanglement. A tanglefoot bag, a web spell and the entangle spell can all entangle you, but have somewhat different effects regarding to mobility. Just read the description of each effect and follow it in that case.

Note: being unable to move due to any of these effects does not mean you lose your Dex bonus, so you cannot be sneak attacked.

Neither Entangle nor Web denies those caught by them their Dex bonus to AC, so you cannot be sneak attacked if you are entangled in them.

The Entangle spell utilizes plants, grass, trees, etc., so it would be considered anchored in respect to the entangle effect. Webs must be anchored or they don't work.

The Entangled status just means you are at half speed, -2 on attacks, and -4 on Dex (which comes out to a -4 on ranged attacks). It may also make you immobile if you fail a reflex save.

With the Entangle or Web spells and the Tanglefoot bag you are automatically "entangled" if within the spells area or hit by the bag, the saving throw is to avoid being rooted to the spot. Even if you break free (via escape artist or strength check), you are still entangled. You stop being entangled when you leave the spells area or when the tanglefoot bag duration runs out.
