How about a Wiki me flag in people's profiles.

That's an idea. The only issue with that I can see is people wanting to wiki some projects and not others, for whatever reason, but in that case people can just note that they do or don't want a given project in there contrary to their profile setting.

What kind of options do you think we'd need? Something like:

1) Always copy my stuff to the wiki.
2) Always link my stuff in the wiki.
3) Ask me first before copying or linking.
4) Don't put anything of mine in the wiki.

I say just post it (stuff posted here is public anyway,) and if they object take it down. Then you don't have to go back and forth. I can't imagine who would object anyway.

(stuff posted here is public anyway,)

public doesn't mean you relinquish your copyright.
every thing you posted here is copy righted by the poster.

While it's fair use to quote to reply or critique and it's fair use to link. Taking someone's copyrighted work and republishing it is infringement.

The issue here is most the posters do want to relinquish their copyrights. For instance the jester.

hmm... what would Lawrence Lessig do.

I think it would be... oddd...behaviour of someone to use WotC's work to freely create stuff and then try to establish restrictons on what they've created. In my eyes, that would be the height of hypocrisy.

Tracts of fluff text, of course is another matter - but mechanical stuff, like classes, feats, powers... it's completely derivative of 4E (it would have to be, or it wouldn't work with it); and in mnay cases, very derivative of 3E, even 2E or 1E.

Added to that - putting it in the Wiki (still on EN World) is no different to a moderator copying or moving a thread, or me putting it in the news.

Hmm.. that's a good point. My Fan Creation of the Week item - I'm going to select it from the Wiki only from now on. I think if you're happy to have it on the front page, you can hardly object to it being in the Wiki. So, if you want to be considered - copy and paste that sucker! :)

In truth, the chances of someone objecting to their stuff being put in the Wiki is pretty unlikely. We're putting it here to share it, right?

I agree, but governments have a habit of giving people the right to do it.

But you, are just the man to solve it. By having people agree to have their posts wikified as part of the registration.

pretty unlikely

The Wiki is extra soupy since in involves derivative works and it only takes one copyright infringement suit to gum up the works.

But no one is likely to object to agree to have their work copied. And once we all sign away some of our copy rights wikifying content here works fine.

I think this thread needs another day on the front page.

Bumps.

I also think that a 'works posted here may be subject to being posted on the wiki without announcement UNLESS YOU NOTE IN YOUR POST OTHERWISE' clause on the homebrew forum should be seriously considered.

posting it on the wiki goes way beyond linking or reposting.

It involves remixing their work into derivative work.
I don't think it's a big issue, but the sooner we resolve it the better.

I love the wiki.
