To the best of my knowledge, there isn't any gameday in the Kentucky area. If there was though (and there may be for all I know) it'd probably be around Louisville or Cincinnati.

When I was at the University of Kentucky (in Lexington), there was a large and active student organization devoted to gaming. (The Miskatonic Student Union.) I don't know if it still exists, but it should be fairly easy to find out. That'd be a great place to start, if you wanted to try to organize some kind of formal game day. (They used to have a small RPG convention every year.)

Louisville has a large and active gaming subculture, but I don't know if there are any organizations. When I lived in Louisville, I never had any problem finding games or filling games, but it was always via word of mouth. Again, one good place to start would be the large university, the University of Louisville.

I find it very difficult to believe that Vanderbilt (in Nashville) doesn't have some kind of organized gaming group on-campus, BTW.

You're kidding. Wow...I can throw a rock and hit the university from my house, and I had no idea.

The Miskatonic Student Union is most certainly still active and going strong.

I've been a member since 1997, and we now have several dozen members. Membership is not limited to UK students (although as a UK Student Organization, voting privledges are only open to UK students). Anybody interested in gaming is welcome to come to our meetings. The annual dues are $5 and first time members must contribute a die (traditionally our membership numbers are determined by rolling the dice of everybody who has ever joined :) )

Our meetings are at 7:00 PM on Wednsday nights in the Student Organizations Center of the UK Student Center (during the Fall and Spring UK semesters only, first Fall meeting due August 31st). If anybody in the area is looking for a game, there are always games forming and people seeking GM's and GM's seeking games. Veteran members often GM games after the meetings which are a good way for newcomers to the club to meet other members and get involved.

The web site for the MSU is http://www.ukmsu.com, although much of the club communications happens through our club listserv (ask on the message board, or email miskatonic {at} uky.edu for more info).

We do run a small annual gaming convention, UKON, in Lexington. The 8th annual UKON is scheduled for March 21st and April 1st 2006 in the UK Student Center (we take up most of the building for the con). It is in the relatively early planning phases, but events will include CCG tournaments, RPG games (besides obligatory D&D/d20, CoC and Paranoia are traditional con games), video game and anime rooms, and a DDR tournament. We typically have booths from local stores, as well as some gaming stores and companies from far off. Boffer LARP demos are also becoming a popular event too.

Louisville's got a solid gamer community. Check Comicbook World or the Preston Book & Music Exchange's bulletin boards to find a group. There's also RiverCon, a mid-sized con hosted in the Louisville/Jeffersonville/New Albany area. It's a "geek con" covering RPGs, LARP, comics, anime, and sci-fi.

University of Louisville had the Armchair Adventurers' Guild when I was there in the mid-90s. IIRC, every other sunday they met at the student center, 3rd floor in one of the smaller multipurpose rooms. I don't recall dues being necessary for students but at the time there wasn't a group game library either so it was BYO Books.

Back in the 90's Miskatonic had at least one or two mini-cons in the summer. I had fun but they were definitely small-time affairs with no more than 200 people attending. My fondest memory was finding the convenience store that put their 2-liters in their cooler. Those guys knew who their target market was!

NKU (on the Kentucky side of Cincinnati) also had an RPG con. The campus was nice but totally lacking in trees! All that flat concrete made it a wasteland but I'm sure the rollerbladers loved it. That con seemed to be a bit bigger than MiskatoniCon but it could have been that I got into more games so it felt bigger.

I wish I could find out more about this - I live just two miles away from NKU.

and remember Miskatonic from my days at UK. Good times. :)

Wish I could help but that was ~ the summer of '93 and many, many details have faded from my brain. One of our friends was from that area (Walton-Verona) and his parents agreed to let us stay at their house.

You might want to hit the Comicbook World near the Florence Mall and see if they can provide any info; that's the only gaming store in that area I know about.

As far as Louisville goes, you might want to try two other places to look for gamers as well: The Louisville Game Shop on Baxter Avenue near the intersection with Bardstown Rd. and the Great Escape on Bardstown Rd. across the street from Krogers a block over from the intersection with Taylorsville Rd.

Huh, wasn't aware of the Louisville Game Shop. I knew there was some comic book store/cafe at Shelbyville Road/Frankfort Ave but nothing at Baxter.

Sounds like I have a quest to investigate a new store!
