ENWorlders in Northeast England?

Wrong end of the country for me :D, I'll be heading to University in Oxford (University college to read English) in october.

Durham rejected me :p
It's funny, Durham also rejected me. I applied for and was rejected by Combined Studies in Arts (I was going to read Archaeology, Classics, and Theology), but was accepted into the much more rigorous Classics and Theology program (which ended up being Ancient History and Archaeology).

I didn't even bother applying to Oxbridge. Cambridge has hardly anyone in the archaeology faculty who's a classicist, and it's attached to anthropology (the same attitude I was trying to get away from in the States). Oxford's application and interview process was just too opaque for me to deal with.

I am still looking for anyone at Cambridge from here... they must exist! Good luck at Durham, I have friends there/going there to study. Whoever was at Oxford, boo! :p

I didn't find the application procedure at Oxford to be untoward or difficult to a great degree (well no more so than cambridge) and I came from a fairly ordinary background (not a private school or special coaching etc.) All i had to do was submit an essay and go for interview, the same if I had chosen cambridge. Oh well :D
I think the reason i got rejected from Durham might have been because I applied to 'the castle' and there's a lot of competition. Since I got into my first choice I'm not too bothered now but at the time I felt a little insecure about my application because of the rejection.

Chris_Nightwing: Now, now, can't we all just get along :D

I have a feeling it was easier for you to figure out, being a home student. For international students, Oxford's a pain in the rear. Their "prospecti" consist of leaflets that look like they were made at home sometime in the '70s, with very little useful information in them. And God forbid you should actually try and call a faculty to figure out who you should study under.

Interesting you were rejected for Castle. I actually applied to St. Chad's, and Castle was given to me as a second choice. Which is funny, 'cause I had the same idea you had -- Castle would be too hard to get into, so I didn't apply to it. The world's a funny thing :)

And just remember: Cambridge will always be "the other place" ;)

Amusingly, it seems that last year 9 guys applied for St. Mary's college. This is somewhat odd considering that St. Mary's is the only single sex college in Durham, and it's all female.
