Epic Archmage

Echo Crothian.

All 5-level prestige classes are not entitled to Epic Progressions. There is reasoning in the ELH for this, and I seriously doubt there will ever be an official version of any 5-level PrC expanded to Epic Levels.

However, in the spirit of House Rules, you can just house rule the Archmage class to 10 levels and then just tack on epic progression after that.

Best bet would probably be to introduce an Epic PrC called the "Epic Archmage" (or whatever) and require one or two High Arcana abilities as part of the pre-reqs. Or, if you don't like that, then simply create the epic PrC for really high level wizards.

Thanks... that is what I was going to do. It just seems that a high level Wizard who takes the Archmage PrC to become an even better spellcaster would then be nerfed by having to go back to the Wizard class and get it up to epic level before gaining epic bonus feats for his class.

;)

I know that is a house rule also... so don't you start!!

Don't forget the Arcane Lord (epic PrC) from Dragon Magazine.

The Archmage is a good class, but not the end all of all wizard classes.

Also, the archmage really doesn't work being extended. You choose abilities, but none of them increase in power with level.

I like this idea. Personally, I'd go with this option.
