Epic Cleric -- Any reason not to take Heirophant?

But in my books... the only difference is the fact that [EPIC] is stuck on the back of those meta feat names... which means simply that you have to be above 20th character level.

IMO you should get an epic feat as a bonus feat only if it's explicitly stated that you get an epic bonus feat (or the list of bonus feats contains these epic bonus feats), or you have an epic PrC (not Assassin of 11th level or higher, but something like Perfect Weight).

Otherwise every character from the warrior caste (barbarians, paladins, rangers...) would take fighter levels after 20th and get epic bonus feats galore.

it also makes it so that order of class levels starts to matter. If one saves those fighter levels till after 20 they get epic feats with them were as people who took fighter levels first do not. So, even with the exact same classes and levels, order would determine which was more powerful.

The order of class levels already matters if you're mixing non-Fighter BABs with fighter BABs.

Agree, except for the Assassin part. Assassin 11th+ is an epic PrC.

IMO only epic classes (i.e. epic Fighter (lvl 21+) or epic Assassin (lvl 11+) or those special epic PrC, like Perfect Wight) can gain epic feats as bonus feats (usually they even have a list of the feats available to them), plus the standard feat every 3 levels can be an epic feat after 20th level.

Hierophant doesn't have an epic expression, they are just as is. However there is still not much reason for a Cleric not to become a Hierophant once epic levels are reached.

I could never take the Hierophant PrC. Whenever I hear the name I always picture an elephant who goes around saving old ladies from burning buildings.

That can be a prestige class in itself :D
