[Epic]Domains and Improved Spell Capacity

Demon Knight

First Post
1. Do epic clerics receive a domain slot for spell levels above 9th level if they take the Improved Spell Capacity feat?

2. Can epic clerics use higher level spell slots gained with the ISC feat on domain spells with metamagic levels?

3. Do spellcasters receive bonus spells from a high ability score for spell levels above 9th level gained with the ISC feat?

I would say, in order:

"IMO, yes";

"IMO, only the one Domain slot of 10th or higher level";

... and ...

"Absolutely, the table is on ELH page 59."

Based on reviewing the ELH:

1. No - slots of level 10+ are like slots of level 0. There is no domain spell for those levels and you get no domain slot for those levels.

Evidence: example NPCs in the back of the book. Eclavra is listed as being able to cast 8 first level spells, which you can only get from 5 regular spells, 1 domain spell, and 2 bonus spells from Wis 26. However, she only has one slot each at level 10 and 11.

Balance Thoughts: If you gave clerics twice the slots with this spell, it would make ISC far better for them than it is for wizards. They're already better epic spellcasters, do they really need to double the power of ISC?

2. No, unless the spell is on the regular cleric list. This is a simple extension of the principle that regular cleric slots can't be used for domain spells.

However, it probably wouldn't be unbalancing to allow the epic cleric to metamagic domain spells, provided that you limited it to one per slot level.

3. Yes. (Isn't it nice to have at oeast one consistent answer between these posts?)
