How would I deal with this?

I'm Epic level. I'd sneer at the Marut, hack it to pieces/blow it up/rip it apart (depending on my class) and ask the agents of Law how many others they have to throw into a fire, because that one made a nice morning exercise.

And if the punk got lucky, the rest of my adventuring band would just bring me back.

Epic level means never having to say you're sorry for tracking mud all over the laws of nature and gods.

Maruts can be advanced just through HD all the way up to CR45. That's before you add class levels. If you temporarily decommision enough lower-tier Maruts, one of the big daddies will come after you, and they will have the means to destroy your soul permanently. And, if it got too out of hand, it's quite possible that the resident God of Death may stop by to have a word with you.

Just because you're level 21 doesn't mean you're invincible. There are always bigger fish in the pond.

How about disabling the original Marut that comes a knocking, bagging it up, and taking a trip to Mechanus to persuade whatever the powers that be there that it's OK in YOUR situation to cheat death, because you're upholding law in some form of fashion. Maybe take a quest for them, find an artifact that upholds law, etc.

If you're Chaotic and can't convince them that you're OK, you may want to hole up somewhere (personal demiplane comes to mind, or perhaps Limbo) until you can figure out how to keep them at bay.

Unless of course, there aren't any bigger fish in the pond. Very campaign-dependent.

One marut coming after you doesn't necessarily mean the entire plane of Law is coming after you. It might be that they each have their assigned beat, and if you destroy the one on that beat then it will be 3D100 years before they assign a new one to that beat. If you die during that time period, problem solved!

Right. But your reply was campaign-independant, and the default behavior of Inevitables is to bring backup if their quarry is especially dangerous or has evaded punishment in the past.

I was just taken aback by how no one seemed to be considering "fight it" as an option. I find that in D&D, "fight it" is the solution to 99% of life's problems.
