Epic feats?

Quick (and probably dumb) question, and I don't have the book so bear with me.

If a feat has [epic] beside its name, does that mean only epic characters can take it? Or is that just the source?

And part 2, does Dire Charge (full attacks at the end of a charge) really need to be epic? Just curious...

You have to be EPIC to take them.

YES!
i have a level 16ftr/11barb/3 legendary dreadnought

Few things can protect themselves before they die, this feat alows you to make 5 attacks when they are flat footed normaly doing this many attacks when one is flat footed means you must be very sneaky or invisble. This combo alows my character to deal 150 to 200 dmg in the first round of combat. that usualy means at least 3 fort saves or die. We can all agree that is powerful but what is worse is in the hands of a rouge. duel wielding that means you can deal 6 sneak attacks at level 20 that can also mean -12 str (crippling strike). this is a very very cool feat that should be left to the epic characters.

maybe i play in a weak group but this makes my character a back bone in melee combat being able to dish out mass amounts of dmg in the first round, i once killed a demi god in one round because he had to do 5 fort saves and failed

Ahh, but you're talking first about a 30th level character, one specifically made to do lots of damage. Since we're talking about pre-epic though, this example doesn't matter.

Then you're talking about a 20th level character. A 20th level Rogue should be able deal six sneak attacks fairly often, even without charging in. Hell, simple flanking will do that. A charging Rogue will only get Sneak Attacks if they win initiative. I certainly wouldn't want to place any Rogue of mine straight in the front-line either.

That aside though, how does the feat look at 1st, 5th, 10th, and 15th levels as well? Judging whether something should be pre-epic IMO should include looking at it from all power levels, not just 20th level. For example, between first and sixth levels, Dire Charge would be useless.

All-in-all though, I think it would be a bit much to allow the feat to be pre-epic. A similar but more acceptable feat might be to allow one extra attack at the end of a charge, if you have more than one attack normally, at yuor BAB -5.

I do think so. Alternative is to make it a class feature of a PrC where it is appropriate (I think there are PrC's that allow it). Same goes for several other effects: Either you have to take a PrC or an Epic Feat for it.
