That combat last for  a long time, and you get to sit and maybe catch up on some reading or even maybe take a nap cause the drive to the game was a long one, meanwhile your friends finish the encounter and then take another hour to escape the dungeon and get your stony ass to get de-petrified. By then maybe the adventure is over and you got to be a witness of the whole affair.Yeah your definition of fun does sound way better than mine, in fact its the opposite of what I  though fun was.
