Episode 006: Council of Thieves Vol 1: The Bastards of Erebus - with Sean K Reynolds

This episode begins our coverage of the Council of Thieves Adventure Path with review of Part 1 – The Bastards of Erebus featuring an interview with Paizo developer and Bastards of Erebus author Sean K Reynolds. We discuss objectivity and the review process and launch a salvo in the Great Edition War. Our Character Concept is a movement and area control specialist, dubbed the Lansing Linebacker. The Monster Mash delivers conversions of the Hook Horror and the Ephemeral Swarm. We conclude the podcast, as always, with an interview with the module author and break down The Bastards of Erebus in spoilerific fashion.

Note: There were some technical difficulties during recording, which had an impact in some segments of the cast (soft hiss in some segments). We didn't discover this artifact until after the recording was complete. Azmyth has been severely flogged for this failing. P.S.: the floggings SHAL continue until morale improves!.

You're right, I guess I need to take a break to think about it...
You guys will be fine engineering the next ep w/out me, right?

Anyway you guys can break this up in parts? I just rarely have time to sit down and listen to 3+ hours at once. Finding where you left off if you have to stop is a pain. Perhaps as a download option break it up in roughly hour chunks or something.

If ITunes would make that easy for us to do and manage for listeners -- we certainly would. Unfortunately - Apple doesn't do that.

Given that 75% of download traffic is through iTunes, that certainly puts a damper on any "album" approach to the podcast.

You could always download an editor of some kind and break it up yourself. I'd suggest Audacity. It's free and easy to use. Just Google it.

Publishing multiple chunks of the same episode would increase the amount of production/engineering time significantly. :(
Not to mention the confusion it might create for subscribers and compound the problems we seem to have with posting to itunes (itunes is so finicky and high maintenance)!

Would a table of contents/time index in the episode information be helpful to you Dark Mistress?

A ToC might help. My problem is there is no way i have that much time to listen to it all at once. In fact normally I get 30-60 mins top to do it. So with something that is 3+ hours you can understand, I am stopping and starting it 4-5 times. Which gets frustrating trying to find where you left off before.

Anyways if you can't you can't. Just thought I would ask.

So, I jest wanted to say a couple of things about the show (in general).

1. This is the first podcast that I've listened to with any regularity. I finished listening to EP6 today, which catches me up with your entire run. I went right back to d20 Radio in hopes that the next episode was up. :)

2. I enjoy it for a couple of reasons, but foremost is that it's clear and well produced (current glitch aside). The hosts have a clear and professional delivery that's honestly more than I expected from a gaming podcast.

3. I appreciate that despite the fact that it's an obviously pro-Pathfinder podcast, you've gone out of your way to be objective and critical when called for. I wouldn't have lasted this long if you were just gushing over the material. It's been a nice constructive deconstruction of several topics that have been a pleasure to listen to.

So: keep up the good work, gentlemen. It's appreciated from this corner of the internet, at least.

That EP7 podcast up yet?

**Complimentary observations snipped for brevity**

Thanks for the kinds words. We're still learning of course, but I'd like to think we are beginning to hit our stride. We'll see, I guess.

That EP7 podcast up yet?
Episode #007 is underway. Our interview with Erik Mona is complete (it's an excellent interview, too, in my opinion) and we'll be recording the balance of the podcast this weekend. I anticipate that #007 will be released about one week from now, on Friday, September 10, 2010.

Thanks again for the kind words.
