Er, Maybe Transfer Spell? -Help!

What sort of level increase would you give a metamagic feat that changed a range of personal to a range of touch?

And what would you call it? Transfer spell?

Share Spell, maybe?

+1 seems about right to me, although you may have to deal with stuff like Shared True Strike + Spirited Charge + Power Attack + Smite Evil at lower levels. It is less of an issue at high levels (see Moment of Presience).

Well, I'm less worried about true strike on the fighter and more worried about things like antimagic shell on the fighter.

Think about it: here's a lich, and boom! -the high-level paladin comes rushing in, full of antimagic...

Here are a few of the spells I worry might cause issues: antimagic shell, imbue with spell ability, contingency, hide life, righteous might, divine power (on your rogue), iron body...

Actually, I just looked- antimagic field's range is listed at 10', though that's silly. It's clearly a personal emanation... but that saves me one big worry! :D

Anyone else have any more feedback on this? Or a better name? (I don't like Share Spell either- makes me think of the ability to actually 'share' your spells with a familiar- but Transfer Spell, as a name, frankly sux).

Slap Spell. If you put it in a metamagic rod, it would be a Slap Spell Stick.

+1 seems low. What's the ELH epic spell DC for increasing a spell from range personal to touch? Is it higher than +2? That would indicate a +1 spell level for something like this. I'd go +2 myself.

Looks like the Epic DC mod is +2, but I still don't think a +1 is good enough for this- I'm gonna go +2, I guess, but I still need a better name...

(Not that Slap Spell isn't amusing, but, well, ya know.)

Ironically, that's the reason I suggested Share Spell, on the principle that you shouldn't have two abilities with different names that work in essentially the same way (aka things should be different or they should be the same).

I've read through most of this thread, but I just cant see putting this feat at +2. Now I believe that most metamagics are overcosted to some degree anyway. They cost you a feat, and extra slots, while the return is no where near as good as what you gave up. So at +1 this seems like a very-weak-but-interesting feat. Why +2???

The only reason I could see not to make it just a flat +0 is because of persistant spell. Which would make this feat a +1. (although I freely admit that I think still/silent/etc should come with a 2 for 1 sort of deal).

Just putting forward my vote for +1 ;)

Honestly, I think it's a bad idea. It's akin to changing "Range 0" on 2nd edition psionics to "Range Touch"... it'll make you sorry later, guaranteed.

I'm concerned about it too, which is why my insticts refuse to allow it as a +1 level. I've told the player (this is for Lester's cohort Orbius, who wasn't around in your day, alas) that we'll go it at +2 for now, until I see something that screams out 'too abusive' to me.

Soo... when is Hobbes gettin' back in the action?? :D

Sword & Sorcery's Players Guide to Wizards, Sorcerer's, and Bards has such a feat, titled Shunt Focus. It only boosts the spell level by one - I was initially leery of it, but we've been using it for around five sessions now, and haven't had any big issues with it. Then again, we're still at fourth and fifth level, so it might change at higher levels.
