Eric Noah's 3rd Edition Website

I was here from... not sure if it was day 1 exactly, but it was early. I even sent in some "scoops", like the Magic site providing stats for one or two of the legendary creatures from, well, Legends in the new fancy 3e D&D. Cross-marketing!

It's funny to see a few old usernames that I remember from those days still posting here! Big shout-out to anyone that remembers the [Hivemind] threads in the Meta forum, and how we ended up negatively affecting the whole forum with how long they were! I was posting from internet cafes as I didn't have home internet at the time.
Things have changed a lot in some ways, but I'm still a gamer.

I remember the prerelease days from 1998-1999 as well. I was back and forth from college, playing in our 2nd edition game with the old open table high school crew, when the first word of 3e from Dragon Magazine sent us searching online through our AOL sign-ins to learn more and I was the first to stumble upon Eric’s page (as the historian in the group, I was the best at keyword searches)!

Used my college’s computer lab and printers to read (and print some stuff out) daily. I remember the days when ENWorld wasn’t around yet, it was just Eric Noah’s rumors site.

@Morrus you have done an admirable job keeping the community going in the 20+ years since. Cheers, brother!

I'm trying to remember when 3E was first announced and how. It was probably from Dragon Magazine that I read it, but I have a vague memory of getting a sheet in one of the later FR boxed sets or a perforated tear out card in a soft cover book in 1998 or so. It was pretty random, definitely nothing I'd ever seen in a boxed set or book before, so it caught my eye. I was taken aback when I read it. It may have been a survey planting the seed before the announcement of 3E though. It's been so long I really don't remember. Does anyone else recall anything similar?

I feel like I’ve been here forever! I don’t remember how I stumbled across ENWorld but it was definitely when people were speculating what would be in 3E. I’d been away from D&D since the early days of 2E and it was 3E (and in part ENWorld) that brought me back.

I was checking Eric Noah’s page multiple times daily in the pre-3e era. We were really tired of 2e, and the simplicity of 3e’s core sounded very exciting!

I faithfully compiled Eric’s playtest/preview leaks into an ever-evolving document, and added in the “Start Playing 3e Now” bits from Dragon each month.

My DM at the time wasn’t interested in trying 3e, but a couple of us made a few characters and tried out some encounters using those leaked rules.

Living in Madison WI at the time, I kept wondering if any of us had ever met Eric at Pegasus Games or wherever, as I knew he was a teacher in the area. (We hadn’t, afaik.)

I didn’t really involve myself in the message boards or register here til a bit later, when moving left me temporarily gameless.

3E was exciting. I remember first learning about it on Eric's site and dove back into D&D in a big way. So many great discussions and meeting people at GenCon in 2000. It rekindled my love for the game.

I had actually met him in library school, though I don’t think either of us knew each other was into RPGs.
