Sigh. I was afraid this was gonna happen.

IMO Erik Mona is the best editor Dungeon has had since Wolfgang Baur. Erik has done an amazing job with Dungeon and turned it into a must-have magazine again. So of course his success is being punished by giving him Dragon as well.

Dragon's a different type of magazine, and past editors who've gone to Dragon from Dungeon have tended to get eaten for breakfast by the beast.

So my condolences to Erik, and my condolences to us all because whoever Paizo gets to replace him at Dungeon after The Dragon eats him will almost certainly not be as good.

(Of course I'd be beyond pleased for Erik to go and prove me wrong by working the same mojo on Dragon that he did on Dungeon and by still being in charge at one or both magazines two years from now.)

What happened, I wonder, to Matt Sernett (whom I actually like quite a bit)? At Gen Con, there was not even a rumble of changes to come - and that's only been 6 weeks.

Unexpected, and sudden. I wonder if we can lure some of the Paizo staff over here to comment....?

Matt accepted a design position at Wizards of the Coast, where I suspect he will make a great impact. I published a few of Matt's articles back when I was editing the two-color Polyhedron, and I'm excited to see him dedicate his creativity and writing skills to official WotC products. With Chris Thomasson, Jesse Decker, and now Matt Sernett over there, the future of D&D is very bright indeed.

Thanks for all the kind words, folks. I'm really looking forward to this.
