Errata to Joe's Book of Enchantment

I finally received an error report about the book that truly warrented errata so I put all the typos I'd been collecting and this big fix (a prestige class had no hit die type, ugh) into a list now available on the product page for the book. And I cut a new copy of the PDF and put it on RPGNow.

FAQ#1: I already bought Joe's Book of Enchantment, can I get the updated version of the PDF?

Ans#1: Not easily. Does any know how to create a patch?

Monte has a friend doing patches for Malhavoc Press. Perhaps if you posted on the Malhavoc boards you may find some help.

If you do find out how to make a patch (and it isn't TOO complicated) I wouldn't mind knowing either.

The procedure of patching a PDF would be of great interest to me aswell, so put me on that list aswell (e-mail in profile.)

Any word on the patch?

I wonder- if a reasonably small number of people bought the book before it was patched, they could request that you send them a link to download the new version.

I had to do something like that the other day with CMG- my browser was screwing up the on-line ordering procedure, so I used paypal to send Mark the money, and he sent me the link.

Worked, well, I think.

Of course, learning how to make a PDF patch would still be better.

Actually, no one's asked about it yet. I think I nipped it in the bud but putting this info up. So, now that no one's contacted me, I have no idea if I need to go through with it. :) My alternate plan was to just give out some hidden locations to download it from but so far no requests.

I must admit though I still haven't posted over at Monte's site to find out who (or what) he uses.

In any case, if you have my old book and are looking to receive a patch to the new version, drop me an email, please.

I have the new version of the book, so personally, it doesn't matter much. However, I think one of the HUGE advantages to PDF products is the ability to patch them with errata. So, in the interest of spreading the good word, the following link points to Monte's board where Alan Card, the gentleman responsible for patching Malhavoc's products, posts some info about it: http://pub58.ezboard.com/fokayyourturnfrm16.showMessage?topicID=27.topic
Alan seems like a generally nice, helpful kinda guy. Maybe you could drop him (or Monte) an email about your questions...

Jaults,
I went to the listed thread and found a patch program linked by Alan. After playing around with it for a few moments I find it does what it is supposed to do. So do not send me email about receiving a new copy of the pdf. I'm going to use the people who already responded as guinea pigs. If all goes well with them, I'll put up the patch on my website.

The only annoying thing about the patch is that PDFs are compressed. So the patch for my 1.6 MB PDF is 800KB. While that is half the size, the actual amount of errata is so much smaller than that.

I'll update you all soon.
