Errata

Hi,

I just wanted to ask if the errata on this site can be considered as official. (if yes, then why isn't this information in the faqs?)

Also, why isn't there errata on all the books,

and

is it updated constantly, or is it just something transferred from the old site?

Thanks.

Unless you're playing in something like an RPGA Living X campaign, there's no reason to give a toss about what's "official". Just pick something that fits your group, and stick to it.

Also, why isn't there errata on all the books,

Pick one of the following: 1) sheer incompetence; 2) maliciousness; 3) staffing cuts. The Sage Advice column in Dragon can also be considered an informal channel for releasing errata on WOTC's products.

is it updated constantly, or is it just something transferred from the old site?

Huh?

I recall someone from WOTC mention that they generally compiled errata for a product when they were about to order a second printing. The products that don't have an official errata yet are likely those who have yet to be reprinted, or in some cases, who won't be reprinted.

Eldarion, official D&D errata from Wizards can be found here (be sure to note the bar on the right-hand side): http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article1.asp?x=dnd/er/errata,3

There is an additional Official FAQ posted from Wizards here, which is mostly intended official clarifications of the existing rules: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/er/er20020922a

The errata is updated very rarely. The FAQ has recently been updated about every other month.

That's all the "official" material from Wizards. It's rather unclear what you mean when you refer to "errata on this site"... nothing posted at ENWorld is really "official" unless it's a reprint from those sources. Perhaps if you posted a link to the page where you believe you're looking at "errata on this site" it would clarify things.

My entrails sneakily tell me that he might very well be talking about this, but no, that would be too obvious. ;)

Aha. Well, the links at the very top of that page go directly to the Wizards site, and those errata documents are official. The comments thereafter mostly match up with the official errata... in a number of cases they differ, and those comments are not official errata. They have about the same status as the Official FAQ, I'd say (off-book comments from single members of the design team -- in fact many, are reprints from Sage Advice, not errata documents).
