Essentials Character Sheet Online!

Thinking about the passive scores- isn't that more something your DM would need anyway?

Don't know about others, but I generally tend to keep those numbers in my PC cheat sheet.

It ruins the surprise when you have to ask a PC for his passive score. Except when you do it on purpose... "What's your passive again? Oh... no reason..." ;)

This'll be great for teaching new people how to play without making it look so confusing. Just what Essentials is trying to do!

I do have one tiny quibble, though. I was disappointed that the download version (which is identical to the Red Box sheets as far as I can tell) didn't include a spot to log passive insight and perception.

I'll probably do what I did on the solo adventure and just record them in the "character notes" section.

Another option would be to write them to the left the actual skill modifiers...

I had a great experience with this sheet last weekend at the FLGS. My group was missing a player, and we needed a defender. The DM said I could play a second defender, b/c he knew I had written up and printed a Battlemind from the CB in anticipation of a later session. I went through my notes and realized I had left that sheet at home by mistake.

I decided to write a 4th level battlemind on the spot. I asked around if anyone had a blank character sheet I could use, and several people had the new Essentials sheet, and the DM had a PHB3. Between the two, I wrote up a 4th level Battlemind (nothing "essentials" about the build) in about 5-10 minutes while we were playing the campaign. Character worked great for the session, including skills and role-playing for a skill challenge. Very helpful, especially putting the skills under the appropriate stats. I still had to refer to the PHB3 for the powers, but that was fine. The PC was written in time for our first encounter.

I hope they supply an additional "worksheet" that shows the various components that add up to (for example) the AC. Especially for newbie Essentials players, I imagine a lot of DMs would want to see the math.

I agree. This could lead to an extra 1 slipping in to the math. Though if you need to cheet at DnD, you've got bigger problems to deal with.

Yeah, I don't like it for making a long hand character because it has no workspace.

And the CB version is complicated but has everything already done for you anyway for the most part, and it has a quick reference section on the powers page.

I can only see a use for this in giving a new player a pregen character sheet for the first few sessions, so they can learn the rules without having to care about where bonuses come from.
