Essentials - Dirt - fertile or misplaced? or both

It occured to me that I had occasionally lapsed in to referring to elements in essentials as Garbage. I have decided it is the completely wrong word all around.

Dirt is damn near perfect why? Dirt can be useful it can be fertile ground for growth of new life even if itself isnt something you care about, it can be used to build a land bridge between two places you want to get between (maybe the other side is not where you want to go but that happens some times).

It can also be misplaced like when you get it in your food instead of under it or it can muddy your swimming hole.

Right now I have felt like dirt has gotten in the food or swimming hole and it feels like maybe its smashed all over the face of D&D.(Essentials is the new face guys).

But there might be good stuff in it and it might be fertile ground for growth. But right now I find myself feeling like its a mud ball fight that started as a planting party...

Others more optimistic see it differently.

"Oh no! More options for the game for the long-time player, and a pathway for those uninitiated in the game and hobby to find a foothold in our world!"

I guess we will see. ;)

I hope we will all have fun with the design going forward.

At least we can say following: Designers are brave enough to try out new things and change things that don´t work at all.

So, chances are great there will be things you enjoy more than the nerf of melee training. I guess bringing a bit more variety and flavour into 4e at the risk of slight unbalances is rather a good change. And i hope it will allow designers to be much more creative in design.

I'm all in for Essentials. I've been playing 4e since its inception, and while I enjoy it, I can see a lot of areas that need to be tweaked.

Additionally, as a busy gamer, if they want to simplify somethings -- thats fine. While my players and I do get a kick from the tactical/resource decisions inherent in 4e, I've read nothing of Essentials that makes believe those slimmed down options will detract from my fun. Actually, I think taking the burden away from some of those choices may be freeing.

They do have that going for them ... its broke .. hey look they fixed it. This could in itself be used as a go ahead and experiment guys.

Essentials - the new Edition Warz.
This thread didn´t sound as if a war should be started... i guess it is sensible to be slightly worried about changes (even if they are small).

IF you are using DDI, houseruling requires a bit more effort.

So i guess making such comments isn´t helpful at all.

So far not much I am attracted to in the options but maybe it is fertile ground that I mentioned...

Land bridge. (cheap may be useful... gets mud on your shoes isnt as attractive as the other route it was built beside ).

Shrug the dirt which is out of place might all be minor (but I expect a whole lot more) its making people nervous.
