Essentials opening door to 3rd Party Support?

I'm not sure that is a concern. Specifically, if you don't directly include the material, its AOK. That's how the 3rd party character tools are getting around the GSL.

You should email WOTC though, or post in the GSL forums.

Just using Essentials for eChan characters is fine. I don't even think you need to mention it.

Putting your Echan equipment in a character generator database is also probably OK. Races... Hmm... All yours are new, so I think you're fine there.

Well, we attempted over the weekend to create Essential builds for techan classes. In the end...it was a resounding success. It does require referring to Foundations for some powers and features (something we may address in a "special edition", if it were to be made) but I was impressed how cool they came out. So yeah, they are going in the next book

That means simpler builds... almost paper and pencil ready? In 4e? Fast violent action with machine guns and monsters in 4e? Cool.

What about getting Echan equipment, Echan races into Character Builder? My understanding of Power Tools is that it can edit the Character Builder database....

I have approached WOTC about it but it seems what prevents them is a impedance of software, not motivation. I have studied the Hero Labs sytem and Character builder and both appear buggy when dealing with rules that deviate from the norm, which Essentials does. Amethyst does so as well, so I am not sure if this will be possible for us.
