[eTools] Hey Eric Noah, question for you...

Hang ups

I have 384 meg of memory to let it play in and I've still managed to lock my system up to hard reset (in spite of Norton Crashguard yet) by having 3 windows open (Table generator, Treasure generator, and House rule entry) at once. And this program has some of the most unreadable fonts / color combos in the known universe.

I have yet to have eTools crash or hang up on me without me causing it to. (Loading a char file that used a custom PrC I had added and releasizing that the active version of the database was a clean version without the PrC changes)

I have a subpar system. PII 300 with 128 Mg RAM, 6 gig HD, and Win XP Pro running 16bit.

The colors are readable with no problems, the fonts are all system fonts. You can change the colors (instructions on that FAQ site or msn group site)

I have had IE, Word, eTools - 4 Char, 2 Tables, Access 2000, and ET Helper all open at the same time. (Note - Access and ET Helper were not connected to the database at the time)

eTools is really not much of a memory hog. I have noticed a decrease in speed as I increase the database, but hey, that is expected.

I would get rid of Norton Crash Guard, cause I have only seen it crash systems. Also make sure you are up to date on all your system drivers and updates from MS and your hardware manufacturers. And make sure you have all those other patches mentioned (Jet, MDAC, IE 6). Finally, make sure all your rac, mons, char has all the necessary add-ons if you downloaded them. (IE install the necessary other options with ET Helper to get the added feats or languages that the races, monsters, or characters were created with)

I just want a patch that fixes it up to being the actual 3 core rule books.

Slow E-tools

After some poking around, I think my problem is I have Office 97 on my machine. Patched thru SP2, but I'm going to install 2000 and see if that helps. I'm also running Win98SE for OS....

Tell me if this one is a bug:

I was imputing the Atomie, a tiny fey into eTools. In the .rac file I gave them proficiencies for dagger and light crossbow. While creating the .mon file it grays out the Weapon Finesse feat as not being available (it should be, the Atomie qualifies for the feat). So, clicking on "ignore requirements" and taking the feat the program does not recognize the Atomie as being able to use a Dagger or Light Crossbow. In other words, it's ignoring their racial proficiency with the weapons for some reason.

Is it me or the program? One thought that occured to me (after I got to work) was that I have to make them proficient with tiny daggers and crossbows. But I haven't been able to test that one out yet.

I had this problem with my halfling rogue using weapon finesse with a short sword. This isn't a bug, it is exactly how the books are supposed to work, but its not worded very well in the books. What I had to do was create a short sword that was tiny, not small will all the same stats as a shortsword. Weapon finesse says that you can apply your Dex mod to a light weapon, which I had always assumed meant a small weapon, (as in small, medium or large in the books), but what it really means is that the weapon is one size mod smaller than the character, and since most PC's are medium, a short sword would be a light weapon, but for a small character, the weapon needs to be tiny or smaller. So for your tiny race, the weapons would have to be diminutive or fine for weapon finesse to work.
