ETools Install Problems

Ok, I'm at my wits end !

Hope someone here can help - I bought Etools the other day. Can I get the thing to install on my system ?

Well, sort of - It appears to install, but doesn't seem to update the registry. When you run the package you get a whole batch of QUERY containing failed SELECT statements. I've tried re-installing, I've tried repairing - no joy !!

Now I've tried installing on an identical machine & it all works fine (yes - of course I de-installed it afterwards). So, I'm kind of stumped !!!!

If anyone can help out I'd be very grateful.

Cheers - Keith

It requires Internet Explorer 6.0 or later to be installed on your computer. IE does not have to be your devault browser, but it must be installed.

Fair enough - should have posted system details first time round (I'm REALLY not awake today !)

Running on a P2 with 256Mb RAM, Windows 98SE and IE6, Running Office 97, Frontage 98, Zone Alarm & Sophos. Pretty much an identical system to the machine where the install was successful ! I've tried the install with & without Sophos & Zone Alarm, seems to make 0% difference !!

Wondered if anyone had come across this kind of error before, & if so how they got round it. I'd find Etools a very useful bit of kit (if only I could get the beast working on my own system) !

Cheers - Keith

PS - I assume that I haven't gven you all you need to know ! Let me know what additional specs you need & I'll look them up tonight !

PPS - Guess your next question is going to be about the exact error messege, guess I'll look them up tonight as well (assuming that you guys & gals ask for it !!)

Sounds like ODBC errors.

CMP e-Tools Downloads.

This site has a Jet driver update and an MDAC update. Judging by the version of office you use, you may need to do these updates.

Try them and see what happens.

Zone Alarm and Sophos have nothing to do with your issue.

Actually with the 1.2 patch you don't need those drivers anymore.

Just make sure when you install the patch that you install it into the same e-Tools directory as the original is in... because of the 2 different installation directories used in the original e-Tools, we missed the 2nd one. *sigh*

Is the problem due to MS Access 97? Does the 1.2 patch change the need for a later version of Access?

Many Thanks !!!

Cheers for all your help oh gallant people all !!

The update to MDAC & Jet drivers seems to have sort the problem out 100%

Using the 1.2 upgrade didn't work because the original product install was failing, so even though 1.2 didn't require the driver updates there was no registered & correctly installed product for it to "cure" ! (well that's how I rationalise it anyway !)

Cheers & Thanks again - All Systems Go - Keith

PS - Yeah, I know a P2 !!, but needs must when the Devil bites & all that :-)
