Evening ECLs

First Post
By the book a PC who wishes to play a lizardman (lizardfolk) character will have to take 2 levels in 'humanoid' for the racial hit die and due to the +5 Nat Armor and +2 Str, +2 Con, -2 Int, and considerable skill bonuses (+4 Jump, Swim, Balance) they are ECL +1. However, stacked against equivalent PCs despite their slightly high AC, they will come up short in BAB and in class skills.

Would you consider either of the following variants?

A) The lizardman spellcaster (sorcerer) can take 2 levels of Sorcerer instead of 2 levels of humanoid, he still pays the ECL +1 and is therefore a full spell level behind say, a human wizard (in return he has a higher str and con and some skill bonuses).

B) The lizardman barbarian takes 2 levels of humanoid, but does not have to pay the ECL +1. While he has received bonuses which would normally incur level adjustment, the fact that he had to take 2 levels in a poor 'monster' class more than justifies him with regards to the non-lizardman, say half-orc barbarian (same str, lizard has slightly better con, and the nat armor bonus, but is 2 levels behind in all barbarian-related abilities).

Yes? No? I need input!!!

Neither.

The racial HD are thrown into the overall ECL of a creature for a reason. If you want a compromise, make the lizardmen ECL 2, and drop the racial dice.
