Ever have a session like this?

GM'ing he as killed 10 PC's in just over a year at his new house! So I guess it is working for him :D

Ahh, but is it the house itself or the dice cast in concrete that are to blame? We may never know .

I used to use a penalty box system. Basically, dice that had committed an offence (poor rolling) were assessed a penalty and placed in a sealed tin. The length of thepenalty was comensurate with the damage their poor rolling inflicted--if it was an important saving throw, for example, they could expect to be out for most if not all of the rest of the session, whereas a failed balance check would result in a vocal reprimand and a short stint in the hole.

I used this system for about 2 years, but the anticipated results (higher rolling average--I was hitting much less than statistical average since my dice were evil) never came. I have since abandoned my old system and have now adopted a much harsher penalty. I haven't even considered using those old dice in the current campaign (which is about 3 months old).

Maybe neglect will bring them around. I don't know what to do anymore. I mean, I know they're evil and cursed, but they are MY evil and cursed dice, ya know?

I still have my firts set of polyhedral dice (transluscent light blue with a transluscent orange extra d10) minus the stolen d4. They have history. Granted, it's a foul history, but it's my gaming history.

I'm pretty sure they were cursed when some fool touched them. It should be a mortal offence to touch another gamer's dice. Maybe next time someone touches my dice, they should spend some time in the penalty box.

This is all just begging for forgiveness, of course. The actual worship, I trust, will be forthcoming as soon as the Red Die starts reliably bestowing high numbers on me again. ... If nothing else, the new dice might end up rolling decently. No, wait, an unworthy thought! Aaargh! I'm so-o-o sorry! (whimper) :D ;)
Hmmm... Is it a semi transparent red with white numbers? I worship him too...

I think the penalty box concept is hysterical...sorry to hear it didn't work as well as you might have expected. The problem, is that some dice only respond to positive reinforcement, which is damn near impossible to give a die that just missed a death effect saving throw!!! These dice should be given away...and then, since they'd be gifts to the recipient...they might perform well going forward...albeit not for you. Ahh, but then you could ask to receive gift dice in return at a later date...which may ultimately lead to some absurd cycle of re-gifting dice. Perhaps too much thinking going on here -- punish the offending dice!!

I think most everyone has "favorite" dice. In the old Call of C. I had a favorite solid blue die that I used for skill building. It rolled 6's better than 50% of the time. My Red pearled dice seem to roll 17's more often than 1/20 times.

Yes indeed, things like that happen. I had one night where I didn't even both to count crit threats. I confirmed 10 crits and rolled some nice 20's for saves as well. As a result a CR 9 encounter for a CR 10 group almost ended up killing a couple of PC's. Now if my dice would only do that for me when I'm playing instead of GMing...:)

Well, in my neck of the woods, it's all down to psychokinesis.

Quite beside the fact that I once recorded statistical evidence that PK works on dice, the gaming table I DM has had its share of nice and nasty. One of my players is virtually guaranteed to roll a 3 or a 5 every time on a d20, but I never have problems with his dice (we're a little low, so we share). If the dice were upset about this, I would expect to have seen a drop in my rolls when I hand out my d20s for a PC whirlwind attack, but no such result; I guess I'm just lucky.

Oh, and the power of my mind is mightier than mere chance.

One player is known (for one campaign only) as "One Girl" for her ability to make the DM roll ones at opportune times for us. henever he rolls high, he'll say something like "Take that, One Girl!"
Luckily enough for me, she has not shown this ability in the game that I run yet. I dread the day.
I have never met a gamer who was not superstitious about dice.
