Everquest in D&D?

One of the things that always bothered me about the whole 'compatible with' line of Everquest is that it's like Arcana Unearthed. It might be compatible with, but only if you keep the systems seperate.

having said that though, has anyone run such a campaign where you used material from Everquest with D&D? How did it go? We did for a few of the races, using the XP penalty as opposed to the level adjustment factor. When 3.5 came out, it kinda made the XP peantly worthless as all of the sudden you're gettign a huge XP bump when you lag behind in levels.

Our group uses a couple of the EQ races all the time now (Dwarves, Halflings, Dark Elves, Iksar, Barbarians, Erudites, and Vah Shir), but we once used the Ogres and Trolls also. Our houserule was that for each 10% XP penalty the race had they got a +1 LA. It worked out alright, but then we started using Ogruns and Trollkin from IK instead. As for the classes, they work out alright...maybe a bit powerful compared to D&D spellcasters until the D&D characters hit epic. After that, the EQ casters pretty much ran the show. We were thinking about setting the D&D classes with set level progressions up to 30 to fall in line the EQ classes (we used them all except for Paladin, Shadow Knight, Ranger, and Warrior). After that experiment, we went back to only using the races with standard D&D and AU classes (with a couple new classes from 3rd party books like DL's Noble, OA's Sohei, and GR's Unholy Warrior).

It can be done, but I would play around with the classes to get the power levels more in line with each other. Now that UA is out, adding spell points to D&D casters may help that out a little.

Adios,
Kane
