As I was reading I was feeling the need to mention "Dorkness Rising", but then you quite naturally mentioned it anyway.
I think a goodly part of what you're seeing is the natural rebelling against a lifetime of following the rules. The older the person, the more likely the need to blow off a little steam.
As to how to be comfortable with an evil campaign I think that it was already quite well stated, in the comments about "evil with a purpose." In fact that's the route that "Way of the Wicked" takes by giving the PCs a clear leader, a goal, and the means to achieve it. From your side of it you can maintain sanity by remembering you're playing the real good guys. Sure, you're watching the good guys get cut down, but self sacrifice for others is the ultimate good act.
And remember, the bad guys don't have to win in your campaign
