Evil Spells

Right, so starting a new game next weekend (all evil verson of City of the Spider Queen), and I need to pick some spells for my Fighter/Wizard Drow (5th Lvl Wizard, 1 Lvl Fighter, 1 Lvl Spell Sword, 5 Lvl Eldritch Knight).

He's a Necromancer, so obviously Animate Dead is a good one, but I'm looking for an interesting flavor for the rest of his spells (Fireballs are lame ;) ). Anyway, I'd like to keep it with WotC stuff (book of vile darkness is banned to player).

Thoughts...

Quick Edit: He can currently cast only 5th lvl spells, though higher level spells are nice too.

What books with spells do you have access to (beyond the PH)? BoVD, Spells & Magic (Bastion), MEG's Necromancer's Legacy, even the Book of Templates (DE) from Silverthorne all have nasty spells for necromancers.

I'll track down the book, currently I have, well I'm at work and can't recall everything I have. But I'd probably pick up these books. So fire away with the cool evil spells (with flavor!). I know its not much to go on :heh:

Summon monster and using good creatures to do evil things is particularly evil.

As an EK though you want some long lasting boosts for yourself, such as mage armor.

What feats do you have and what do you plan on specializing in melee, ray spells, missile fire?

Book of eldritch might have some nice greater mark spells at 4th level, the earth one gives you dr 10/magic which is nice when in melee against beasts.

It also has some undead boosting spells.

Examples from Spells & Magic (which is 3.0):

2nd
Insubstantial armor- target's armor becomes incorporeal.

3rd
Repultion by fire- damage and possible knock back.

4th
Sinister web- paralyses those who get stuck.

5th
Bloodfire- spray your own fiery blood.

6th
Vacuous sphere- it sucks up loose items.

7th
Malignant web- paralyses and does dex damage

8th
Minions of Death- kills and animates

Necromancer's Legacy

2nd
Osseous Staff- creates powerful weapon from bones

3rd
Skinwalking- assume the shape of some you have slain

4th
Mortification of the Flesh- gain partial immunity to crits by making your organs disappear.

5th
Army of Shrapnel- skeletons explode when slain

7th
Plague- infect all within 30'

9th
Necropolis- animate an entire city

Book of Templates

4th
Burrowing Bones- throw bones that enter target

6th
Create Vampire Blood- those that drink it gain the vampire thrall template

7th
Dark channeling- posses an undead creature you can see (inc scrying)

Some suggestions from an NPC necromancer's spellbook

Cantrips
Disrupt Undead - to keep your undead servants in line
Touch of Fatigue - nice when in melee or via spectral hand / familiar

1st level
Cause Fear - for use against underlings / lesser enemies
Ray of Enfeeblement (ideally empowered) - use on enemy fighters before you go hand to hand with them
Spectral Hand - for all those nasty necromancer touch spells
Chill Touch, Detect Undead, Obscuring Mist - suitably necromantic
Enlarge Person, Mage Armor, Shield - all useful for melee

2nd level
Bull's Strength, False Life - on self of course
Ghoul Touch - use with spectral hand or in melee
Command Undead, Scare - just because you can

3rd level
Gentle Repose - for nicely preserved zombies
Ray of Exhaustion - combine with ray of enfeeblement for maximum effect
Vampiric Touch (empowered) - as needed to top up your hps
Halt Undead - just in case

4th level
Animate Dead - obviously
Black Tentacles - especially on those Str reduced opponents, nyuk, nyuk.
Enervation - level drain always causes a bit of panic
Bestow Curse, Contagion, Fear - for a bit of colour (black of course)

5th level
Cloudkill - not necromantic but who cares
Magic Jar - possess your enemies and get them killed instead
Symbol of Pain - make them hurt
Teleport - just in case things go bad
Waves of Fatigue - yet more Str reducing badness
