Exactly what neutralizes a MAA?

See topic.

The spell states "...unless somehow neutralized,...". So I'm asking what do you think neutralizes it. Its a duration spell, so Dispel Magic obviously, but how about mundane means? Submerging yourself in water? Applying a basic liquid onto the acid would be logical, but how many charaters lug around jars of ammonia? Maybe some kind of alchemical buffer solution?

Any thought's appreciated. A charater in our group suffered an assasination attempt by a 9th level (flying, improved invisible, naturally) wizard, who cast a 3xExtended MAA. That's 32d4 damage, an average of 80 points. Our cleric was on the other side of town, so he couldn't help. After much arguing with the DM, the character was saved by jumping off the pier.

9th level caster, so it lasts 4 rounds. +3 extended spell which each add on an additional 4 rounds each gives us a total of 16 rounds. Each round it does 2d4 damage. Over 16 rounds it does 32d4.

As for neutralizing it, you need either milk or vinagear or another base liquid to conteract the acid.

Edit: What happened to Grazzt's post?

A 9th level melf's acid arrow extended three times lasts <thinking out loud> 4, 8, 12... 16 rounds and does 2d4 acid damage per round for 32d4 acid damage.

No fair. I posted at 3:54 too. :)

Actually vinegar contains acetic acid, which is not precisely a base.

The word alkali is derived from arab, and means "wood ashes". An easy to find base. And submerging in water should dilute the acid, so it would work.

I figured you used your Administrater Magic to somehow alter the Message boards.

Heehee- nah. Just had a brainfart, realized it after posting, and decided to correct myself (hopefully) before anyone caught it. Apparently I need to learn to type faster, catch my brainfarts quicker, or just quit posting. :D

Pouring a certain amount of water would do it... casting create water above the character??

You can't create water above something. All objects or creatures summoned or called via conjuration magic must appear on a solid surface capable of supporting them.

Create Water
ph189 "Water can be created in an area as small as will actually contain the liquid or in an area three times as large, (possibly creating a downpour or filling many smaller containers)"

While it does not specificaly say that you can cast it into the air, you can't have a downpour if there is no down. It allso looks like you can only do this with the oversized 'area'.

Hehe I read "an area three times as large" over and over before I figured out what they where talking about. It would have helped if they had used the term VOLUME instead.

As a side question, how much area CAN you fill with 8 gallons of water? ~2,800 square feet if it was paint, but water is thinner. :D :D :D
