Exalted Champloo - Episode 1 - "Intolerance"

"I agree we can't leave her to her own devices, but we can't care for her either. I for one know next to nothing about caring for children nor cats for that matter..." Snow looked curiously at the girl, she couldn't help but feel an urge to protect the cute, little catgirl, "We'll take her with us until we find someone who would be able or willing to care for her ... and not sell her into slavery once we turn our backs."

"I've been to a few First Age ruins before and few are quiet, boring places with only historical puzzles to study. They all seem to have some sort of interesting, lethal protection in one form or another... that's my experience anyway," she looks at Alamar before continuing, "How far does your family live from here? Maybe we can go there first and see if everything is fine. They might be willing to take in our little stray kitten," she finishes with a friendly smile at the girl.

He shrugged it off, the comment about digging around the ruins, "I merely proposed the idea of the ruins as a way to let things cool down for awhile. Family of course always comes first. However, I'd still like to visit them, but family first."

He smiled a bit, chafing at the inability to see the ruins immediately, but understanding the needs, "The idea has merit, but the ... wyld touched are often mercurial at best. It might be a task for your family. However, it seems like the best chance we have right now."

OOC: I'm assuming(probably correctly) that with being forced to vacate the city, that we had to leave the 'hired' soldiers behind. I completely forgot about them myself once the whole issue of the wild hunt arose. He's having to, for the moment go against his passion to unearth more first age information.

She keeps quiet, feeling shamed to not have been any use in the fight, but keeping her senses open to the surroundings. She would have spken to the girl, but it was quite likely another stranger would only make her more uptight and nervous, and that would only defeat any wins she would made with the strange girl.

OOC: Watching for more trouble at this point.

"Its not extremely far. Its a week or two to the east of Chiarosco. Alamar and I helped each other with a few dragon-dung for brain soldiers and then we left to head west to the city, it hasn't even been a month yet since we left. I just want to know whats going on. After that we can go wherever, that search they were doing just didn't sit right to me." Temari told the others as she let the child run her fingers over the orichalum inlay of her powerbow.

"In any case, we should pass on through this shadowland as quickly as we are able to. Unless we wish to be hunted by something else, possibly something worse then what we have already faced." the huner said, drawing an arrow and putting it to the string, but not drawing the bow back, wanting to be ready in case anything was attracted to the fighting.

Alamar smiled, "Besides ... it'll be good to have some cooking that is made straight from the heart. Meals made in town, unless you make them yourself, just don't have the feel of cooking made in a home. That and I might persuade Temari's mother to try out a few recipes I've picked up in the past few months."

He grinned a bit, "Though not all of them. I know of a handful that require exotic ingredients that are rather ... dangerous to acquire. Anyway, yes, we should get going, any exposure to the Shadowlands can be bad for mortals."

He looked toward the soldiers he'd hired, and noted that they'd wisely hung back during the battle. But, they had earned some of their keep, a few zombies had been dispatched by them. He was seriously going to have to talk to his old grizzled friend later about what he was. That and he'd have to educate these men on the real facts about the Anathema and their real role in Creation.

He did however have to give them credit, they seemed ready, and were still here, despite having seen displays of power that they believed would bring Oblivion. Perhaps they were steadier than he thought or perhaps they were just in shock.

"We should get going. I'm not even sure if Exalts are immune to the taint that the Shadowlands can bring. I do not wish to become the first, or possibly the latest Wyld Touched Exalt."

"I agree, let us move out. Can Shadowlands cause Wyldtaint? I always thought they were the exact opposite of the Wyld. The Wyld being live and change while shadowlands are more static and only bring dead," Snow wonders outloud, "Not that I'm not particularly fond of either."

He shrugged it off, "It's hard to be sure one way or the other. My study of the Shadowlands are relatively limited, and this is perhaps my first personal experience with them."

He moved carefully, reluctantly moving forward, obviously wanting to spend more time studying the ruined area here, but realizing that time was critical right now. He kicked aside the remains of several of the undead, noting calmly various details about them as he moved.

"Of course of more immediate concern is who is being hunted, and what was done to draw attention to them. Temari's idea that its me and her holds a lot of weight, more to my dismay. I'd thought I was careful enough so as to avoid attention, but it seems perhaps I wasnt."

Assuming the Circle moves on…

The Circle picks their way through the ruins and with Silent Wind taking the lead they find their way through the Low Road with no more incidents… but the feeling of being watched still lingers.

The Circle emerges into the harsh sunlight of the desert, in a slum outside the main walls of the city proper. They have survived… but there is still much to do, and still more mystery to come…

He smiled and stretched his arms, "Well ... we made it. Back into the wilds as it were, where I feel most at home. The city has its ..." he decides to tease Temari, by pointedly, for just a fleeting second, staring at some of her nicer features, "charms, but the wilds have its own charms as well. If one knows how to appreciate them, that is. Otherwise, its just purely unpleasant. Keep your waterskins handy, you'd be surprised how fast one can get dehydrated out here."

"I suppouse cities do have some charms, but I don't really see it. I am still waiting for you to provide a display of your experience, the last time you unwrapped your lance it looked a trifle limp." the huntress jabs right back, after the older exalt had made his point by staring at her chest. "Don't worry about me, I'm used to the heat. At least its a dry heat, the forests are both hot and humid, and clothes stick to the skin."

"Has anyone else had the sense that we are being watched? I have noticed it off and on, but now that we are outside the city, it should be easy to tell if someone is following us through the desert. Its not as easy to hide in the sand as it is in a city, or in tunnels."
