White Wolf Publishing is pleased to announce a program to introduce pen and paper role-players to the world of Exalted, culminating in a free book giveaway in May.

We are offering 2500 gamers an opportunity to graduate from their formulaic dungeon raids to a dynamic world where heroes can wield earth-shattering magic and command unstoppable armies right from character creation. Each graduate will receive a free copy of the award-winning Exalted Second Edition core book, and in return we ask they send us their old copy of the Dungeons & Dragons Revised Third Edition (3.5) Players Guide.

We're offering you an opportunity to break out of the Dungeons & Dragons cycle, and graduate to a new kind of fantasy game. We’re confident that once you step up and experience Exalted's world of epic fantasy and larger-than-life heroes, you won't ever want to search another 10 x 10 room again.
Why play a rehash of the same old game, when you could be exploring Epic Fantasy Re-Imagined all summer?

This is wonderful stuff! Awesome news - thanks so much for posting this link :)

I am neither an Exalted player, nor a 4e-aficionado, so I have no vested interests either way in this. But I love me some full-on marketing smackdown competition. The sheer brazen way that WW have stepped up and basically said "D&D is lame - check out our far cooler game and graduate to the next level" is priceless. Whichever way it rolls, it'll be a hoot to see how this turns out.

Bring on the popcorn![/

I just love the totally brazen way that WW have stepped up and basically said "You know, D&D is lame. Come play our game and graduate to the next level." Priceless. Kudos to them for having the balls to bring it to the table (even if it does blow up in their faces, which it may well do!) It reminds me of the good old days of Vampire 1e, with none-too-thinly veiled swipes being taken at D&D style games and reminders of how much cooler Storytelling games were. They certainly cornered themself a piece of the market back then. I guess someone at WW reckons there's an opportunity to try and do the same again.

Ah, there's already a thread on this over at 4e? OK. Haven't been by there in a while. Have to check it out... :)
There's a thread about this in this forum. A few lines further down.

This is amusing to me. White Wolf's faux-hip posturing has always driven me away from their products. I don't need to be told what is cool, particularly in the arena of gaming where that moniker is so subjective as to be non-existent. I'm not saying I never play White Wolf or don't own any of it's products but it is definitely not part of my regular gaming diet. I'll footnote all that with the caveat that I play Ravenloft from Sword and Sorcery but that's still D&D in my books.

As I stated in the other Exalted thread re: that game, I don't care for the fluff, finding it to restrictive, and the crunch is so opaque that I find it of questionable value for the games that I like to play.

If I want dark fantasy I'll play Sorcerer. If I want epic fantasy I'll probably go with FUDGE.

I receive more than a little amusement from the idea of graduating to a system designed by a company that has been just as enabling to munchkinism as D&D.

You can keep exalted, White Wolf, let me know when your books have evolved beyond something I read into something I actually want to play.

aww come one, games about teenagers are awfully cool, oh the angst the pathos, the suffering, it's so hard to be them. That's what those games are, all the "clans" are high school cliques and the real story is about growing up.

Exalted...never even looked at it.
