excel 3.5e party experience calculator updated (epic & legal)

Plane Sailing

Astral Admin - Mwahahaha!
In this thread http://www.enworld.org/forums/showthread.php?p=1338991 in the software and electronic utilities forum I've uploaded an excel spreadsheet which can be used to calculate the xp for a party of varying levels using the 3.5e xp division rules.

Now updated so that it doesn't require the non-OGL DMG table, and supports epic levels and CRs greater than 20.

Cheers,

I don't want to be a jerk, but that file contains non-ogl material (the XP table). Does this mean that I can make an Excel file that's a "starting gold calculator" and get away scott-free, while the thread containing that information was deleted?

The table is a mathematical expression, derived from:

1) The amount of XP needed to gain the next level is (Current Level x 1000).

Now that we've fixed that number, we must decide how much each encounter is worth.

2) Each character requires 13 1/3 encounters equal to their own level in order to achieve enough XP to level.

Thus, each encounter must be worth (1000 / (40/3)), or 75 xp per character, per level.

That is to say:

A CR 1 creature must be worth 300 XP to a Level 1 party of four...
A CR 2 creature must be worth 600 XP to a Level 2 party of four...
. . .
A CR 20 creature must be worth 6000 XP to a Level 20 party of four.

The rest of the table can be extrapolated mathematically.

Yes but what has this do to with the fact that it's not in the SRD and thus can't be reproduced?

AR

I didn't reproduce anything.

I PRODUCED something (mathematically).

If you wanted to play "CYA" you could leave the following boxes empty in your Excel sheet, and let the GM fill them in according to his own tastes:

Variable A) XP REQUIRED TO REACH NEXT LEVEL

and

Variable B) NUMBER OF MODERATE CHALLENGES DESIRED TO REACH NEXT LEVEL

I understand your point.

Nevertheless, the method you describe is the one that appears in the DMG and the table is just an expression of that method. I'll grant you that it's probably impossible to copyright (or whatever) a mathematical formula, but it's still their method.

Of course, it doesn't matter here since the actual table that we find in the DMG and not in the SRD is reproduced in the excel sheet attached.
