Excel monsters and initiative?

Hey folks,

I've used index cards for initiative order for a while and I'm considering using a laptop and Excel instead. It only seems worth it, though, if I have monster stats in Excel like I do on those index cards. Does anyone know of an Excel file out there with 3.5 monster stats (rows = beasties, columns = stats) that I could use, whether or not it already has a column for current initiative (which I can add, obviously)?

Thanks,
MC

You can do a few different things:

1. Get the data in a flat file and put it into excel, create an engine that allows you to pull the monsters into a combat tracker then generate a random initiative and sort them in ascending order.

2. Do the same thing but limit the monster data to just name and init. mod. to keep the overall spreadsheet small.

3. Get DM's Familiar which does all that and more.

4. Keep writting it on paper or a dry-erase board.

My suggestion, if you want more than just SRD monsters, get DMF or start coding your butt off. If you only need SRD monsters and don't mind some inconsistencies get the SRD XML file from Andagor's site (I think that's where I saw it).
