Excerpt - Rituals

there is a dramatically lowered casting time for the ritual that they show the detail for... i wonder if that'll be a trend, or just the one they happened to show case?

(not that i mind either way).

Lots of old favorites in that list. It looks like speak with animal and speak with plant got consolidated together.

I think overall the durations will remain about the same as other rituals (the bard ones may have their own special rules). I think the duration of animal friendship (nice implementation IMO) has more to do with the nature of the ritual than anything else. I mean, can you really keep a wild animal in place for 10 minutes?

"When you perform this ritual, choose a nonhostile Tiny natural beast, such as a cat, a fox, a fish, a mouse, or a sparrow...If the animal is unable to carry the object due to the item’s size or weight, the animal enlists the aid of other creatures of its kind to fulfill the task."

SOLDIER #1:
What? A swallow carrying a coconut?
ARTHUR:
It could grip it by the husk!
SOLDIER #1:
It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.
ARTHUR:
Well, it doesn't matter. Will you go and tell your master that Arthur from the Court of Camelot is here?
SOLDIER #1:
Listen. In order to maintain air-speed velocity, a swallow needs to beat its wings forty-three times every second, right?
ARTHUR:
Please!
SOLDIER #1:
Am I right?
ARTHUR:
I'm not interested!
SOLDIER #2:
It could be carried by an African swallow!
SOLDIER #1:
Oh, yeah, an African swallow maybe, but not a European swallow. That's my point.
SOLDIER #2:
Oh, yeah, I agree with that.
ARTHUR:
Will you ask your master if he wants to join my court at Camelot?!
SOLDIER #1:
But then of course a-- African swallows are non-migratory.
SOLDIER #2:
Oh, yeah.
SOLDIER #1:
So, they couldn't bring a coconut back anyway.
[clop clop clop]
SOLDIER #2:
Wait a minute! Supposing two swallows carried it together?
SOLDIER #1:
No, they'd have to have it on a line.
SOLDIER #2:
Well, simple! They'd just use a strand of creeper!
SOLDIER #1:
What, held under the dorsal guiding feathers?
SOLDIER #2:
Well, why not?

Animal Friendship sounds awesome, and I'd gladly pay more to have it become permanent or renewable on a monthly basis. My rogue just wants a raven pal.

That just seems inherently wrong... :p

It's like using a charm spell in order to force someone to be your friend.

I am beginning to despair a little on the ritual side of things. I do think its something they really could start to loosen up on.

I can control a mighty army of 3 whole sparrows at Epic Level! Three, fear me yea tyrants of the world and my small flock of pigeons.

Would it really be so terrible to say that at Paragon you could have hundreds of little animal helpers and as many as you care to acquire at Epic?

Its simple enough to change but annoying that I have to.
