Excersise in AC (Help the Two-Handed Fighter)

My thoughts on the force shield is that a Mage with a dagger in one hand and this ring in the other is allowed to drop the shield and cast a spell the re-activate the ring and still get all the AC benifits... why can't a two-handed fighter do something similar...

My Thoughts exactly.

Heh...
And I hope you nerf his idea about becoming a lich also. ;)

It wasn't that player, it was another player who convinced the DM, That player also tryed ot say you could only do one free action a round, I won that battle, but lost the force sheild in the process. :(

Behind straight up bonuses to your current armor, an animated shield is the best bang for your buck for AC. Sure, it might cost 9k instead of 8k for the +2 to start with, but once you take it to +3 AC (total cost 16k) compared to a +3 nat armor bonus (total cost 18K) you start to see the savings. Then at +4 it becomes even more apparent (25k compared to 32k). So it's an investment that pays off in the long run. Of course, I'd still recommend getting at least a +1 Amulet of Nat. Armor, +1 Ring of Deflection, and +1 Luckstone eventually as well. ;) Just depends if you have the slots to devote to such things.

I don't know Valicor... Sounds like everyone is out to get you.

Monkey Grip, then use a large shield in your off hand, that's +2 AC, plus for another 1000 gp it becomes a +1 shield...

Well, if they are going to be sticklers for the rules, then remind them that (by the rules) Potions of Shield are perfectly legal. 7AC for 50gp ain't bad at all...

If you do got the Animated Shield route, note that there is no duration on it. You command it to guard you in the morning, and leave it guarding you all day. So you could have your two-handed weapon readied for most of the day as well.

Your right it is a good investment. Normally I look at and compare the costs's of items, Failed ot look, beyond the +3 though, this time. I must be getting lazy.

I already have a ring of protection, and natural armour hasn't been tapped ito, but i am already using an amulet slot. Also I didn't think the luck stone gave a AC bonus.

No, not so much out to get me, at the time I had alot of errors on my character sheet, since that time they have been corrected, removed or compromised on. In our group the DM has never really checked character sheet's so its always us sorta lurking watchign other characters and pointing otu mstakes. Its kinda trvial, I only say stuff when it is effects the balance to the party now. Ie lich, thread. I didn't even bring the discussion to the DM though.

Grey that's a cool idea. I didn't think of that, problem is I really like the x1.5 multipler for stength, that is why I went two handed in the first place. Otherwise I would have used a Bastard sword instead of Mercurial greatsword. Good idea though.

Actually, since they follow rules, what I did already was go and make a Sheild Bracer already, that lets me do jsut that 3/day for 3 miutes each time.
