Exchanging Paladin Spells for Divine Feats

Option a: levels 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 (five total)

After all, you are removing the ability of casting so nice spells as holy sword, bless weapon and countless others for a couple of divine feats that need uses of another class ability (turn undead) to power themselves.

While it's a nice variant, I think it will be underpowered when compared to having paladin spells, specially because by removing spellcasting ability you make multiclassing into "typical paladin prestige-classes" like (Pious) Templar, Fist of Raziel a less attractive option.

If they will be limited to divine feats, I would say colum A. I would also add a feat that would let them Turn at full level. Alowing bonus Turn, Smite, and Remove Disease would also be good.

I say five feats because despite gaining spells late and only casting at 1/2 level, they grant not just power, but variety. A Paladin can do a whole lot of things decently, but with the right spells selection for that day, he can do one thing very well, i.e. healing, combat, etc. By giving him static feats which feed of his Turning ability, he has less variety, and all have the same pool number of uses each day. In addition to also draining his ability to turn.

Right now, the only two stats a paladin doesn't have to be strong in are Int and Dex. I definitely think there shouldn't be a wisdom prereq, especially since so many divine feats already have wisdom 15+ prereq's (judging from DotF, at least, since I don't have Complete Divine yet).

Yes, I plan on giving access to all turn-related feats (quickend, empower, etc.) as well as divine feats.

I hadn't thought about smite/cure disease feats; I'll give it some thought.

Cool idea. I'd probably require a 13+ Wisdom to take divine feats, and I'd probably give the paladin 3 divine feats on the ranger bonus feat progression: 2nd, 6th & 11th. I might also add a fourth bonus feat at 17th.

I think the real question is this: are gaining bonus divine feats worth losing paladin spells? You'd be losing a few potent spells - holy sword, for example.
