Um, 'new elf race'? Que? What MoI preview mentioned a new race?
If you put your thumb over the screen where it says their name when you read the dusklings write-up, they're elves. And pretty bland elves, other than the mechanical incarnum additions to the race.

I pre-ordered it through my FLGS, but the previews, and all subsequent material leave me feeling cold, kinda in the same way that Ghostwalk (after having bought and read it) did. I will still buy, and be hopeful that I use something from the book.

One issue that I have is that it seems to bridge the gap between magic and psionics. I'm all for new magic sub-systems, but I think of psionics as a different beast, and like to keep them as far apart as possible. Some of the flavor behind this book might not jibe with my views...Hope it turns out to be good!

I do think that next year's Tome of Magic is closer to what I was initially expecting from this book.

I doubt I'll get it, but I'll reserve final judgement until its out and I've read a review or two. I don't want (or need) more books that just collect dust.

So in other words, elves are tough, stupid nomads? :\
Honestly, besides a bit of similar flavor, the dusklings are nothing like elves. Not everything vaguely humanoid is an elf. Especially if the men have long, full beards. I'd be a bit more inclined to call them small Oni...

I am much more worried about the apparent three other races, found in the mess Wizards calls an Art Gallery:
  • The Skarn - They look like humans! They have Spikes! Pic
  • The Rilkans - They look like humans! They... errr, look like humans! Pic
  • The Azurins - They look like humans! They may or may not be a bit thinner! Pic

Glech! What's that on the necks of the Rilkans?

OtoH the single easist thing to ignore in any new splat book is a new race you don't like.
