Edit: NM, found it. Ugh, I really dislike the WotC main site layout. >p

Agreed. That preview is really buried. I kept wondering what everyone was talking about.

As for the dusklings, I don't think they're all that bad and I could see myself using them. I really don't see them as "elves," but I definitely get the wild-feyish vibe the designers intended. However, sometimes I'm not a fan of the writing style of Wizards' books, because they can make an interesting concept sound sort of bland. But like most people I tend to reinvent and rewrite these things to fit into my campaigns anyway.

As for the Totemist class, I'm not sure about it, because I haven't read as much about the rules for chakras, bindings, etc. The sample soulmelds are sort of neat, because I can see the potential in them, even if I'm not sure about the samples themselves.

The spells make me wonder if Incarnum is intended to bridge the gap between magic and psionics. Some of the rules seem like standard magic, but the whole "invest essentia" mechanic seems a lot like psionic power points.

I think the interesting part is that you don't spend your points but merely allocate them round to round. So rather than working like standard psi/mana points it's more like energy allocation in SFB (although hopefully simpler.)

The Soulmelds themselves seem to be more like spells in Arcana Unearthed/Evolved in that you set up your daily allotment in the morning and then power them as needed.

I could see it now. "I devote a few points to pumping up my melee attacks, but I can't move. I hope someone comes near me this round..." ;)

Am I the only one who sees this equation? Incarnum = "The Force" . The whole power of living souls dead souls and souls yet to be born seems like a Force rip off to me. Am I reading too much into this? Please let me know if I am delusional.

When I first heard about the book, the idea sounded exciting and interesting, but the previews have taken away almost all interest I had in it. Another way for characters to become a christmas tree of magic items, yay. I'll read a couple reviews and flip through it in the store before I make a final decision though.

Are you talking about the stuff that's part of last month's "In the Works", or is there some other hidden preview somewhere?

Presumably the excerpts. Until today, the web team apparently did not manage to add a link to them into that little Magic of Incarnum box that sits on the D&D main page and links to other articles about the book.
