This is a great thread.

No, it isn't. I was very, very afraid while the thread was loading... what if it was serious?

Great in a "The Ring" sense maybe. Good thing I just woke up - I don't think I could sleep for the next couple of hours...

ooo
I want I character drawn with some sort of utility pouch armband/legband that magickally switches arms and legs from panel to panel. Oh and of course a BFG that looks like a staple gun!

oo....oo...and can he write my character's comic too? He's an even more gifted writer!

<<sigh>>
A truly lazy artist, with some talent....sometimes I found his stuff very visually entertaining...he's just so damn lazy with his pencils.

I *know* I threw something at the TV when his Levis commercial first showed and it said he created X-Force (oh you mean the New Mutants with Cable added? nice work!)

The only decent art Liefeld turned out was his breakout work in DC's Hawk & Dove miniseries. And even then, by the 4th issue, when Hawk battled Kestrel in the realm of Chaos, he started losing his grip on reality in favor of anatomy that would make Darwin cry.

If you think it scared you......... Someone has a wicked humor!

I will admit this ONE thing about Rob. He's not a total A$$ hat like some artists I have met at Cons. (Steve Tucci (sp?) of Shi comes to mind)

I was really big into the Shi comic once upon a time and went to the SD Comic con in .. like 98. Arrived with a stack of Shi's and a whole Slew of questions on how he built the story/concept. Just in time to see him totally reaming one of the Con Staffers, because GET this.., his bottle water wasn't cool enough. (STRAIGHT out of the friggen ICE chest).

I get he's a busy guy, and the con is a high stress enviorment for artists. But it was all but SNOWING inside the center, and I had spent 2 hours outside in the SD heat waiting to get in while he'd been inside since 7 am. The poor con staffer was looking beat and all that. I tossed my comics in his lap, told him what I thought of him and walked off. Never looked at his stuff since.

Liefeild might not be the best (or most consistent) artist, but the one time I met him in simular circumstances he was polite and seemed to be bearing up fairly well under criticsm.

Still don't like his stuff

rant done.

Odd that Wayne Reynolds draws characters who likewise are rather awkwardly posed, but because he doesn't completely shoot the finger at God by drawing misshapen man, we all approve.

I for one does not approve WAR's, errm, artistic anatomical licence.

But on the other hand, I know that Wayne can draw things right, when he's trying to. It's just that it's not his favorite style.

Sorry Eosin, I saw your request on the other thread to possibly do something like this and just couldn't resist. ;) I definitely wouldn't have a problem with you carrying the torch in any related way in the future, the WAR contest will probably be the last one I do.

As for Liefield, I'm not exactly a fan, but God knows the guy's taken his lashings. I once read that all an artist's "style" is are anatomical mistakes he makes that just happen to be consistent. WAR's particular style rocks, Liefield's....less so. Its not that his figures are disproportionate, its how they are.

Anyway, if you happen to like the guy, look him up. Maybe he would be willing to do something like this. Just be careful what you wish for....
