An interesting topic! I think that most people play fantasy games for the nobler aspects and wish to escape the 'sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll". Adult themes have a more limited appeal as they carry cultural baggage.
As to what a person's reaction would be, it depends upon how and what they are acculturated to. For instance, 19th century people were terrified of whales yet today you can go play with grey whales off Baja California. A better analogy might be attacking a car when someone is trying to run you over. Its all learned responses . . . what animal in thier right mind would attempt to cross a busy street? Its all in the mind . . . .
