Exotic Materials for Arms and Armor

There is gemstone plated armor and weapons in my Hero's Handbook. The idea comes from the real world practice of diamond plated steel plus a little knowledge of geology and gemstone hardness, plus some creative day dreaming.

Is there a Bloodstone Material type in there? ;)

Nope. There is only a handful of gemstones that are harder than steel. IIRC, Bloodstone isn't one of them...

Steel is about 6 1/2 on the Moh's hardness scale. Diamonds are a 10, of course.

Paraphrasing from the HH "You can plate armors and weapons with softer gemstones, it just doesn't change the properties of the item."

Nice, didn't realize Magic of Faerun had that. I have that book so that's money saved. Also, complete warrior just arrived from amazon today so I have to scour that. I'll have to check out some of the other ones soon.
As always thanks to everyone who posted for all the help they've provided me.

*shameless plug*

The Enchiridion of Treasures and Objects d'Art (available at RPGNow.com) has LOTS of such things (over 300, I think). :) A demo can be picked up (with a couple dozen materials) here:
