Experience for nuthin and yo chicks for free

Hey Water Bob, congradulations on an awesome post, I tried to be the first person to give you some exp for it, but it said I have to spread it around first, and that makes you the first person I have ever given that much exp to.

LOL! I just tried to XP you, and I guess I've given you too much, too!

Thanks for the words, brother. I appreciate it.

We once had a gladiatorial game that only had 2 PCs and between roughly every other session I skipped years of time and awarded level(s) and/or magic items to represent their burgeoning skill as well as their status as combatants. This allowed the game a nice flow with combats being more varied instead of a slow grind of samey fights against samish enemies.

One player especially liked that their first fight was an old worg (used wolf stats) and then later a healthy worg, and then after the final jump an entire pack.

Then at level 6 they finally felt like trying to escape and both ended up dying in the attempt, but fun times nonetheless.

So yes, I do like the idea of skipping time and rewarding things for it. In the d20 modern game I gm-ed players trained skills in transit from one planet to the next instead of having them awarded at level up, didn't change much but affected the feel of the whole thing.
