Experience log

I remember at one time or another a DM posted a chart on many different challenges that the players could earn experience for. Is this chart still around? Do any other DM's use these charts and give EXP to other challenges besides Combat?

I don't use charts, but I do give XP for other things besides combat. Role playing, player cleverness, good use of abilities, figureing things out, helping others PCs get involved in the game more, extra work outside the gaming session, etc. I beleive in rewarding the players for doing things that are positive.

I believe I bookmarked that thread, but it's bookmarked on my home computer and I'm at work. Feel free to PM me if you don't see me post a link by tomorrow.

I give XP for everything and nothing. Basically, I just give out enough XP per session so that the PCs advance at the speed that I want them to. So if I want them to take 5 sessions between lvls 3rd and 4th (which takes 3000 XP), I give out a little over 600 XP per session. It frees me up from wasting time on XP calculations and the players don't worry about doing things to gain XP quicker. I doubt I'll ever use any other system for XP again.

You may be thinking of Rel's system, in which each player rates himself in categories determined by the dm? (I may have this completely wrong- I think this is how it works, and I think it's Rel that has the system.)

I use a 'system' much like that. No more monster kill XP, just fun session XP. Oh, and the casual story award :-)
