Extend Ice Storm

Ice Storm is not instantaneous, having a duration of '1 Full Round'.

If Extended, would the spell deal the 3d6 +2d6 damage each round for two rounds, or would only the movement and Listen penalties persist for the second round, the damage being a 'once-off'?

Great magical hailstones pound down for 1 full round, dealing 3d6 points of bludgeoning damage and 2d6 points of cold damage to every creature in the area. A –4 penalty applies to each Listen check made within the ice storm’s effect, and all land movement within its area is at half speed. At the end of the duration, the hail disappears, leaving no aftereffects (other than the damage dealt).

Regardless of its actual duration, the hailstones rain for only one full round.

The movement and listen penalties would stick around for the spell's duration.

I disagree with DM.

If extended it would do the 3d6 and the 2d6 damage each round. Should count as continuing damage too.

Hey, it's a 5th level spell after the metamagic, and even like this it doesn't compare too well with Cone of Cold or telekinesis!

Cheers

I'm with Plane Sailing. If extended you should get a repeat of the damage. It's not like it's going to be overpowering.

too bad it cant be persistant. Still not overpowering in most cases, but definately funny ;)

But I agree with some of the above, extending it would deal damage to anyone who entered the area and again to anyone who stayed in it too long. When it dealt damage should be handled like any other damaging spell with duration.

I disagree with this- drunkmoogle, is this supported in the rules? Am I missing something?

Absolutely.

The duration of the spell is one round, and that is Extended to two rounds.

But the hailstones don't fall "for the duration of the spell"; they fall "for one full round".

A change in duration doesn't explicitly affect this. It's sensible to assume it does, but a literalist reading agrees with DrunkMoogle.

Aha! Thanks!

Hmm, I wonder how I'd rule this one if it ever came up...
