While I doubt that it will ever perform as well as a desktop equivalent, this is a decent first step towards the concept of external video cards. I'm a bit wary of all the extra stuff elevating the price significantly, and I'm not fond of the decision not to sell it in retail, so I'm not sure I'd be getting this for my laptop. Still, it's nice to see some improvement in the area.

Really I'd like the idea of being able to have an external video card for a laptop, especially if those cards are more in the price/capability lines of internal cards.

Expresscard connects to the system via a 1x PCIe lane, so I don't see how they're claiming a 16x connection.

The connection for the graphics card is a x16 connector, thats what they are refering to, not the connection to the laptop.

In any case the next revision of the pcie standard supports external cabling and connectors.
