What book is Savant in?
The Savant is an interesting class. My only problem is that it has sneak attack progression for whatever reason I cannot fathom. It doesn't even really seem like a combat-ish class, but for some reason, it has sneak attack.

Otherwise it seems pretty solid. Prolly the best base class in the book, IMO, the others kinda suck.

Those two sentences are completely counter-intuitive to me. So, this jack-of-all-trades pulls these abilities out of his hat because the situation is desperate and he needs a spell to save his bacon, but he has to prepare his spells ahead of time? I must have missed the class ability that lets him know exactly what kind of desperate situations he's going to be in that day so he knows which spells to prepare.

Not sure what your disconnect is here. You can certainly have a spell on-hand that saves your bacon without being intimate with the particulars of the situation ahead of time. There are plenty of spells with a general level of utility. Fly for escape or pursuit, dispel magic for buffs from the bad guy or debuffs from allies, teleknesis for all the wonderful things it does....

Savant does it better. Factotum is okay, but Inspiration Points are a brand new mechanic on a class focused on doing everything the other classes already do. I wouldn't think you'd need a new mechanic to be a jack of all the already-existing trades.

All I know is that my Factotum 5/Beast Heart Adept 4 I just made tonight will be quite successful when she Vextingly flanks with her girallon after using Acrobatic Strike to tumble past a foe into flanking position. A +22 attack bonus with a scythe is a fun thing.

So is a +30 Jump check and a +19 Tumble check.

And a wand chamber in her scythe that holds a wand of true strike, when I have a +11 Use Magic Device bonus. Not a sure thing, but fun in a pinch.

It looks like a fun, versatile class. I can't wait to try it out next week.

Feats do present a problem for the Factotum, they don't get very many.

Never do understand why people make references to a class "not getting very many feats" when they get as many as other classes. A few classes grant bonus feats, but hardly enough to consider them the norm.

Another good question, who is your Iconic Factotum? Sherlock Holmes, Dr Van Richten from Ravenloft, Rupert Giles from Buffy?

Having looked over the factotum, it seems to have a lot of traits that I think the monk should have. Namely, an open class skill list, the ability to get big boosts to skill checks and attack rolls, and the ability to emulate spell effects as spell-like abilities. Just replace "inspiration" with "ki" or "chakra".

I think he means no "Class-Specific" feats, like a Factotum-only feat. And I agree. I pointed out two such feats I'd like to see. One that increases the number of inspiration points and one that gives the Factotum a way to recharge those points during an encounter.

Hi,

What I liked about the factotum having read one of the articles about Dungeonscape on the Wizards site was the suggestion that it would work well in a one player/one DM adventure. This is a great idea and made me look at the class again in a different light.

I really liked Dungeonscape - lots of cool stuff in there.

Cheers
