Factotum - Should I allow it?

First Post
A new player wants to play a Factotum (Dungeonscape pages 14-19). I am trying to get an idea if I should allow the class.

The Factotum does not look too powerful, but I am that familiar with the class and the possible abuses.

I would appreciate any feedback about your experiences with the class.

Thanks.

It is kind of like a bard. It does a little of everything, but it is mostly a skilled character. It should not break your game and if anyone falls the factotum could fill in for a few moments. I will also say that you should read over the class before you allow it since you are the DM. Any class can be abused, but this is one you would have to go out of your way to abuse.

Depend on your campaign. We found it to be a very versatile class and it offered a lot of fun for the player on the other hand it was found to be a little weak.

I played a factotum up to around 18th or 19th level and it was great fun. Never too powerful, although my intelligence bonus was like +22 or so in the end- it was a crazy campaign, all right!

We had a Factotum in a game I was in and he was awesome when it came to skilled things, like sneaking and forgery, etc... but he was one of the worst combat characters I've ever had the priveledge of gaming with, but YMMV on that score

If you do allow the player to take the class, please check out this Wizards page for some nice info on the class, as well as the awesomely useful Font of Inspiration feat. A factotum isn't a full time front line warrior by any means, but by careful use of inspiration points he can get in a few key strikes when most needed.

Also, if the campaign gets into the upper levels, the Chameleon prestige class (from Races of Destiny) is a nice complement that can lead to incredibly powerful skillful characters.
