I was wondering if anyone has statted these two for 3.x/d20?

If not I think it would be a fun project to engagein over in the rogues gallery.

Although I never went as far as to fully stat them out, I gave some thought to their classes, based on what I know of their stories.

The Mouser started out as a wizard's apprentice, then moved to Lankhmar and became the quintessential rogue, so he'd have to start as a Wizard (or maybe sorcerer), then rogue, then possibly duelist. I'd say Wiz3/Rog10. Of course, he must have Two-Weapon Fighting and Weapon Finesse to take full advantage of Scalpel and Cat's Claw.

Fafhrd had a dabbling in sorcery while in Cold Corner, but no more than that. He'd be a Bbn8/Rog4/Sor1, just to keep him at even levels with the Mouser. Power Attack seems about right for him, and he probably has Weapon Focus (greatsword) and Improved Critical to wield Graywand to maximum effect.

Fafhrd was training to be a skald; I'd give him levels in bard instead of sorcerer.

A couple of levels in Bard will do well. Regarding the Mouser, give him a couple of levels in Wizard, as, in most stories, he is unable to do any spell by his own.

But, seriously, 13th level? For the second-best thieves in Lankhmar? And the greatest swordsmen in Nehwon or any other world? :D

13th level was very arbitrary, I agree. But I'd hesitate in putting them at too high a level, since they faced their share of hard combats (astral wolves, the devourer...)

But I'd put them at epic levels only well into the Twain's adventures. Starting at 13th, they can be around 23rd by the time they retire...

The pair span six books and more, so it partly depends on when in their escapades you're talking. While still at Cold Corner, that supposed "greatest swordsman" needed his woman to put a dagger in his enemy's eye in order to survive. And Mouse gets trapped by the Duke's men when a "greatest swordsman" would be able to fight his way past.

Also, "greatest swordsman" is a relative term. It is possible that Newhon just tends to lower level - it is not true that the gretest characters of a given fictional world must be epic levels.

Given that he is quite stealthy in wilderness situations right from the beginning, how about Ranger instead of Bbn/Rog? Also, he is quite composed and in control of himself for a northlander - rage ability seems inappropriate to me.

For the Grey Mouser, I'd actually give him no wizard levels *at all*, but he clearly has plenty of charisma plus ranks in "Use Magic Device". If you look back at the genesis of the theif character class it seems pretty clear that their original ability to sometimes cast spells of scrolls is derived directly from the Grey Mouser adventures.

True for the 1e thief, but in the story, the grey mouser started off as a wizard's apprentice and cast a spell then went off and became a master thief, never using magic again (at least not spell comletion items).

Even though it is a poor 3e choice, 1 level of wizard then the rest rogue or even AU unfettered or one of the duelist classes would probably be best for him if you want accuracy to the stories.
