Fallout D20?

Psychotic Dreamer

First Post
I seem to start a lot of these posts. I just kind of enjoy generating ideas. I started replaying Fallout yesterday and hope to start replaying Fallout 2 tomorrow. While playing it I had some thoughts on using D20 for Fallout type games.

1) Character stuff:

A) Characters start as Commoners, Experts or Warriors and can multiclass into other classes after a level of adventuring. I would use Fighter and Rogues. Probably work out some other classes also.

B) Characters can start as either Fighters or Rogues.

2) All fire arms would be treated as exotic weapons. I would probably use the fire arms from Spycraft. With a couple dragonstar weapons tossed in for the energy weapons.

Just a couple of random thoughts. I would love to see what other people think.

actually at one time when fallout tactics first came out, along with the d20 system i had started work, on a fallout d20 game. i created all races from fallout, including deathclaws, and also made new classes, i believe they where driver, medic, soldier, outlaw, scout, and tribal. i got as far as feats, and then i started collage again, and really have not been able to pick back up. but as of late, well after tomarrow i will only have one class, and i had planned on picking back up. i am currently in league with cybernetic, and will be posting my test doc's thier soon, at www.cyberneticsorcery.net but i would be more than happy to share info with you if you would like! just lemme no, i am an avide reader of the boards.

Yeah. I always love seeing other peoples thoughts. Personally I would run a game during the original Fallout. Mainly because I haven't managed to finish Fallout 2 and couldn't get into Fallout Tactics. Thats just me though :)

actually dreamer, if you have anything, like links, that could give me a brief history of the world, or anything like story line. especially starting at the first game.

I think Call of Cthulhu would actually be a good rules base for a Fallout game. I mean the customizable class and lots of firerams stats - not the sanity rules and Great Old Ones;)

If you are looking for more info on the setting, try the Fallout Pen-and-Paper RPG site, with lots of free downloads and info:

Late this year, we (Ambient Inc) are releasing deadEarth d20, a d20 game using the setting from deadEarth, a post-apocalyptic RPG which bears a strong resemblance to Fallout. It's a dirty and brutal RPG, and should feel a lot deadlier than most d20 games (except possibly CoC which is quite deadly too).

We've written up the starting races, classes and much of the other material, but are honestly hoping for the release of d20 modern before we go into final release, so we can be as compatable with modern as possible (although we are upgrading the lethality of the system compared to modern - our weapons deal more damage, and if the initial wound doesn't get you, the Fort saves against the diseases and other strange crud will hurt you pretty bad too).

FALLOUT!!! <sniff>.......Fallout.....how i love theee so :S

I would give my eye teeth for a Fallout D20 official system...i really would.... Gamma World is so obviously never going to rear it's head, and it's growing ever more unlikely BIS or Interplay will ever give us Fallout 3, despite the huge demand for it..... (major bad business decision IMO)...

For a Company to make the RPG setting for D20 they would be giving themselves access to the masses of CRPG fans that lvoed the genre and are being denied more in that genre, and drawing them to pen and paper RPG's.

The SPECIAL system seems very D20 compatible.... basic stats, hit points,... saves, remove Action points, provide a critical hit system.

Perks can translate into Feats with great ease, Skills are easily compatible but changing from a % system to a normal 3e style system.

traits could take the form of Background/regional feats

Vehicle rules, sleection of weapons most of which just need converting as the detail and variety have alreayd been provided, same with armor, and general gear.

the histories been written, the maps drawn....the background p[rovided, the villains details, the monsters created.....

Add your races
Human (vault dweller)
Human (raider)
Human (tribal)
Super Mutant
Deathclaw
Ghoul
Humanoid Robot (from story in Fallout Tactics)
heck you could even add wolves, intelligent plants and Brahim if you needed to as they are all implied with intelligence in the games at various points.

Prestige Classes
Gangster (leading upto made man)
BOS Templar
Enclave Stormtrooper
Chosen
Road Warrior
Reaver Technopriest
Super Mutant Berserker
Experiment (for Deathclaws)
Anachronism (For the long lived Ghouls..think Harold a pre war bod)
Tribal Shaman

Magic is implied in the game by ways of prohpecies and visions through the games...but only seems available to Tribals.

There is a Pen and Paper RPG of Fallout for the SPECIAL system located at http://www.iamapsycho.com/fallout/ which is good but it aint D20

Basic Classes

I'd probably think would be better suited using the D20 modern approach

I.e classes that emphasise a stat
e.g Smart Hero, Wise Hero, Strong Hero, Fast Hero etc.....

I've been half tempted a number of time to attempt a Fallout D20 RPG myself...but time to do it eludes me.

I was even going to approach Mr Claudio Pozas to provide some art to get me started way back but then he stopped taking individual jobs and wnet on to do the counter collection stuff... <sigh>

I dream of this RPG i really do..... a Fallout D20 Hardback 400+ pages in my hands......i wish i wish i wish.... all glossy paged, with full colour illustrations......JOY! if only.....

Although I haven't actually looked at it too much, Darwin's World looks like it might be a pretty good starting point for a Fallout game. It is post-apocalyptic.

I guess you could just strip the background and replace it with Fallout's.

Hmm. Onsecond thought the more I think about it the more work that might be needed. After all you'd still need the game specific stuff to really be Fallout.

*sniff*

I wish there was a Fallout d20.
